I've been looking at them on Amazon and reading very contradictory reviews until my head hurts.

Ideally lightweight, in fact, it doesn't matter if it's a tabletop one, and the best quality available under £50 or thereabouts though I can stretch a little more if necessary. I know £50 won't get me much, but I'm not going to have my camera teetering over the edge of Ben Nevis in a force 10 gale any time soon, so it doesn't have to be anything special.

Don't ask much do I? ;)

Many thanks.

Hi

i have a silk 400 tripod .It is pretty sturdy. You can get it for 50-60pounds in ebay.

thanks

Just bought a Redsnapper myself, really well made and very sturdy. Comes in a very nice carrying case.

I'll have a look at the brands mentioned. I'd not heard of redsnapper before.

Thanks for the help everyone. :)

Well, it took a while for me to get round to order it, but I took delivery of my Red Snapper RS-284 and head today, and have to say, for what it cost, I'm very much impressed.

Thanks again for your recommendations everyone.

There are few things as bad as a cheap nasty tripod.

Guess how I know. :(

I've been looking for something to use instead of my current manfrotto 055 - something a little shorter in closed length and lighter too. The RS-284 looks like it will fit the bill. What head did you go for alltaken?

(I'm assuming I could also use the head from my manfrotto on the redsnapper?)

Hello, I got the RSH-24 3 way head. It was a bundle deal. :)

Edit: I'm a bit new to this so I'm not sure if your manfrotto head will fit, sorry.

Just bought a manfrotto carbon fiver tripod from jessica, looks and feels great so far. Currently on offer for £89 but they are now part of tesco club card deals...

I went with a redsnapper after recommendations on here, I'm very pleased I did.

I use a Redsnapper head on a manfrotto tripod no problems:)

Sorry to hijack but what is the difference between the RS284 and the RS283? Is it just that one folds up smaller than the other? Does this mean less stability or???

Thanks :)

I think it was one folds smaller than the other, but the other one has more height adjustment.
