I really like these flash looking websites but how easy are they to make.

ive seen some nice examples at freesitetemplates.com but the one i like isnt free:'(

How easy are they to use and insert what you want were you want.

The one id like is on the flash tab (top of page) page 11 top left but could possibly do with some advice before i depart with some reddies:nuts:. I have hosting and web doamin name and am ok at photoshop and frontpage if these would help:shrug:

Your thoughts and advice please:thumbs:

Dave,

As it seems very quiet in this thread I'll pipe up. I use Photium for my site....it's a template driven site where you can pick from a mix of various page formats. Certainly not the cheapest option for hosting but seems like it's aimed specifically at togs and keeps things simple. They'll host your site in your own domain name and do the neccessary registration or trnasfer.

I bought a domain from daily, got it hosted with helix hosting (who I massively rate as they're run by a friend who's a tog too) then did nowt with it for six month while I coded different sites. All of which were *****. Then I tried joomla which kinda worked but was quite involved. I now use wordpress which is shockingly easy and has loads of free templates available.

My site is here, it just needs some more content and it will be awesome. No coding or proper web design took place, It was all point and click

Mine is from Mr site. a website in a box and is fairly cheap to run for the first 12 months and comes inline with others running costs for the 2nd year

love it as simple and easy to set up

Thanks guys id really like something like that one from freesitetemplates.com (flash tab (top of page) page 11 top left ) I like the music the sounds of buttons clicking and the way the whole thing looks but i just wonder how easy/hard it could be once ive bought it.

Have to agree Mr Site is excellent value for money. I have one for my business and it's really good, have even thought about getting one for my photos.

check out whether the search engines will find your content too, mostly they work on text rather than images, so if there is little or no text there's not much to direct people to your site. I cannot stand the flash movies on most sites, eg telegraph.co.uk because they are so distracting, so I have flashblock installed, all I see is a blank space that has to be clicked to see the flash. If I happen on a site that has nothing but flash on the homepage I don't even click it because I know that it will just be eye candy.

I agree about flash. Understated is the way to go with a website, IMHO.

I built my own website see cstphotography.co.uk as i design/code websites.

Get in touch if you want me to knock soomething together for you.

Same goes for me.

I'm a web developer by trade.

Here's a very basic website which I coded for myself - http://www.stephenhoultphotography.co.uk and I'm sure I could help you out in one way or another.

Just give me a PM if you're interested.

flash sites may look good, but I hate music or sound effects on sites, so I wouldn't stay long. Also search engines find it harder to index them.

:agree:

If it's a business site, people are visiting for a reason, to get information, don't make people have to wait for things to load, or site through a intro animation and personally I don't like sites that make noise. Keep it simple.

Alternatively, if it's purely a personal site, make it as fun as you like with as many bells and whistles as you fancy. People are probably visiting just to pass some time.

Personally, I'd go for a site designed in xHTML and CSS instead of Flash.

what they said, I hate with a passion noises, I alternate between good and bad connections (home, phone and uni). I use my mobile as a browser and it hates flash with a passion

not too keen on the aesthetic a lot of flash sites have, which is one of the most important bits especially in this line of work

I prefer the look of a flash site and many customers like the snazzy grapgics. I appreciate the downsides though. I may look to get a second site (non-flash) for a different domain to see what works better.
