Hello all...well, I'm ready to start taking photography seriously... I have enrolled onto a photography course and have around £800 MAX (otherwise I'll never get out of this overdraft!! ooops) to spend on a decent camera and bits and bobs to go with it. I have done plenty of research (with lots of head scratching due to all the technical terms) and am leaning towards a nikon d3100.

I know for the money I could probably afford to get a better camera but I don't want to jump too far ahead of myself & someone has said to me it's more important to get decent lenses...

As it's from America, including postage, it will cost a total of £800 and what I really need to know is it worth it as that's all the money I have!?

I hope to learn a lot here and become reasonably good at something really I love so any advice would be great!

There's not £800 worth of kit there. Most of the stuff that comes with it is junk. Better off getting a D3100 with kit lens from Jessops for around £429 and buy decent stuff with the rest of the money.
 
That's what i was worried about...as I have individually priced up the body and the lenses along with a decent bag etc and it wasn't too far off...I just needed a second opinion...Would you say the camera and the lenses are decent enough to get me started? thank you for replying I know it sounds very newbie of me but you gotta start somewhere =]

Well you only get 3 lenses, not the 5 it reckons. The lenses are "OK" and are good enough to get you started, but you'll quickly want to get better ones. The 50mm won't Autofocus on the D3100 either, due to the lack of inbody AF motor.

And it's a USA model.

I'd buy proper UK stuff that comes with a proper warranty.
 
I'm definitely going to steer clear & keep it in the UK. I just wanted a 2nd opinion & you have highlighted my worries so that's that. Cheers I will have a look!
 
I love the fact in the original link they make out like the battery, charger, body cap, hot shoe cover, strap and CD are "extra"
