when im resizing pictures to post, i resize to 800 on the longest side, then when it apears in the post, the pics are really pretty small....
see what i mean

what am i doing wrong here

Are you linking to the thumbnail image by mistake?

when you select the IMG code for posting make sure it is the size you want, it looks like you have posted the 240 pixel size, I have not used flickr for a long time, but I think that 640 is the closest you will get to the permitted maximum length as 800 is not available on flickr.
I believe that selection of IMG code is still thumbnail, small, medium and large.
