So I had a knee operation back in June and am just getting a semblance of mobility back. I walk 3 miles every day, or cycle 7 depending on my mood or the weather. However my daughter pointed out this app (from the NHS) which is about getting back into running - from couch to 5k... Currently on week 2 but having to have 1 day run plus 2 days break (walk or cycle) because my knee hurts if I do day on day off.

I do enjoy listening to music while I exercise and have discovered some great (rock) music to walk briskly or jog slowly to.

To that end, I wondered if perhaps there's anyone else out there that enjoys walking or running to music, and if so - what do you listen to? I can't stand auto-tune pop, or dance, or... well anything other than rock really. Pop rock is my guilty pleasure :)

Walking:
The More Things Change (Cinderella)
Highway Tune (Greta Van Fleet)
Welcome Home (Heaven's Basement)
Ballad Of Mona Lisa (Panic At The Disco)
1985 (Bowling For Soup)

Running:
Shoot To Thrill (AC/DC)
When The Night Comes in (Blackstar Riders)
Reverend Winkle (Blackstone Cherry)
Take It Off (The Donnas)
Dirty Mind (Halestorm)
C'mon (Quireboys)
Too Many Clowns (Magnum)
The Road To Damascus Street (Ricky Warwick)

Do you have any decent walking or running rock tracks? What's in your playlist?

I love my music, I listen when I can, the louder the better. Rock is a passion for me too, Tool are my favourite band, anything to do with Maynard James Keenan really, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer etc.

I don't mind a bit of the Foos too, and old school stuff, Maiden, Zep, Sabbath, Rainbow et al.

Walking for miles is good, usually with Tool playing.

I like Audio books when walking - esp when wandering with my camera. And they don;t work (for me) while running.

I have listened to Desert Island Discs, worked running as sometimes I find i concentrate more on that (than I do with music) which means I forget how knackered i am or ho way legs hurt. Also, liked Storytime with Boon (clint boon of inspired carpets), some great stories!

Why not just pay attention to the world arround you for a change. The Birds singing, the Wind blowing, the sound of different surfaces as you step on them.

It's not exactly what you asked, but I would *highly* recommend the Zombies Run! version of C25K instead of the NHS.

It will cost you a small amount of money (it's about £2) but is a proper C25K programme (like the NHS but IMO better), lets you add your own music playlist and cuts this up with an involved immersive drama about surviving a zombie apocalypse. When I started running I found the storyline far better for keeping me going than any music I had on.

Oh yeah, and add The Final Countdown to your playlist. You know it makes sense.

Anything by Alter Bridge or Blackstone Cherry works for me.

I don't do running or walking, except when out looking for insects to photograph but when im at work I listen all day to all genres of music, rock to easy listening to rap, im very open, so working on my own has its advantages, well to me anyway.

I don't listen to music a lot when I'm running any more but when I do, I like to take my 2 favourite bands that nobody else has ever heard of with me..... :D

The mighty Treacherous Orchestra is good for hills

Or cruising along the beach I like local boys Rudy Warman and the Heavy Weather

Thanks for the heads up. Not heard of these guys. Got plenty of Blackstone Cherry on there though :)

Alter Bridge are basically half of Creed - I very much enjoy their album 'One Day Remains'
