Just checked the weather, cloudy no rain forecast, so would say yes, and I am going to head out there soon for a few hours, cloud cover can help to be honest.

Need to pop into town on the way as bought a new lens last week with PL and forgot to buy a UV (DOH!)...

Aww Ryan that's a shame, I was hoping to go this week too but hubby has had to go back to work and not sure my old banger would get me there. Am going to try and get his car and go next week now. Not sure I will get many keepers either but it will be fun trying!

sorry to be a bore having said this on another thread this morning. There is no such thing as bad weather just different opportunities!

Just needs a bit more imagination or perhaps different imagination from your norm. So don't be disappointed just have another go.

Not a bore at all, as you say it's a learning curve.

If I can learn something new everytime I go out I'll come home happy. Even if I come home with bad shots on the card I can look at what I've got and figure out what could have been done differently.

I havent been there before but was going to pop up today as I am not a far drive away from it - until it started raining. Can anyone give me a good idea what sort of lens to take (i'm in the middle of buying new lenses anyhow and it might help me to sort out which ones to buy). Does anyone use flash photography there too or is that a big no no

Am sure Cosmix will be along to answer as appears to get the best shots, the best lens I have is the Canon 70-300mm f4/5-6 IS USM...

Hi Zeitghost,

The fastest zoom lens you have. I would use a 70 - 200 VR F/2.8, but depends on what you have in your armoury.

Not sure about flash but would imagine it would frowned on as you could frighten the animals. Give them a call and see what they say.

Never been there as a photographer and last time I visited with my children was about 1985! A long time ago. Keep meaning to book in with my Motorhome.

Hi, Lens, anything from a 200mm to a 400mm is good for most of the park, 400mm gives good possibilities for close ups, and losing any signs of enclosure, a shorter lens is useful as well (24-70) as there are some areas like the Reptiles/insects that a long lens is of no use, also the shorter lens may be of use in the Madagascar walk-through area, as for flash, I am known to use that a bit there, have never had any complaints, and the animals never seam distressed by it, even in the Madagascar Walk-through where there is no fence between you and the lemurs, just comes down to common sense to be honest.

thanks cosmix - looked at your pics from there and they are great - take it you guys have a season ticket - blast longest i have currently is a 70-210 (and its a rubbish lens), might have a go with that and see what i get but wide open i am only going to get 5.6 and it'll be soft (currently am looking to upgrade to a nikon 80-200 f2.8 (cheaper than the vrs) and a nikon 300mm f4 - i would hope the 300mm would be okay there then as the 200-400mm is a little on the pricey side atm

My 100-400 is 5.6 @ 400mm and is OK, some of the areas need a higher ISO to get shutter speed due to this but is doable, 210mm would be OK in most areas to be honest, I go 400mm for the close ups, but that is me, and thanks for the kind comments on my shots.

And do have a season ticket but is well worth it.

The 300 f4 would be great with a 1.4 converter.
