Hi All - Me and the better half are getting married in October this year, but won't be going on our honeymoon until early 2014. So, as a small break after our wedding, we are looking to stay for a couple of nights (maybe 3) in the Cotswolds. Does anyone have any recommendations for any nice country hotels which are no silly prices. I've looked at the Lower Slaughter Manor which looks the sort of place we're looking for (although maybe a bit more contemporary inside) but not quiet as expensive (£660 BB + evening meal for 2 nights in October :gag:)

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for looking
Gareth

There are many to choose from, but I would recommend any from the following, not quite the Cotswolds but I used to work at Mallory Court - L/Spa, then some to choose from..

Kings Hotel - Chipping Campden
Bibury court - bibury
Calcot manor / tetbury
Charingmoth manor - tetbury
Lords of the manor - upper slaughter
Swan hotel - bibury
Cowley Manor - nr Cheltenham

Hope this helps

Not sure if it's in your price bracket or not, but one of the prettiest places in the Cotswolds I've stayed is The Manor House Hotel in Castle Combe.

Even if the hotel isn't really for you, then Castle Combe is worth a visit. It's been called 'England's prettiest Village' and it's easy to see why. It was where Spielberg filmed many scenes for 'Warhorse' (he stayed at the Manor House Hotel when filming).

Seriously beautiful village.

The Close Hotel in Tetbury is lovely. I've stayed there twice. Ask for one of the Four Poster Rooms.
It's often featured on here for wedding photos.

I've stayed at The Plough Hotel in Clanfield on a couple of occasions. Depending on what night(s) you are after you can sometimes stay for free. When we've been they've had a special Sunday £0 rate provided you spend a certain amount with them elsewhere.

Given the great bar, real ales and long gin and wine list this was not a problem! Great food and lovely rooms too.

It's lovely, but if Lower Slaughter Manor is too expensive then the Manor House is right out ( although they may offer some mid week packages in Oct).

I love Castle Combe, bit the parking there is a PITA (ie none in the village). Bibury would be my first point of call.

The only reason I suggested The Manor House, is because I also stay at various Relais & Chateaux, and I've found it on occasion to be cheaper to stay at smaller hotel chains, such as the 'Exclusive Hotel' chain that 'The Manor' belongs to, rather than the Relais offerings.

Relais are lovely, but can be overpriced when compared to similar, smaller, independent hotel groups in the same vicinity. ;)
