Cotswold Cameras

Having asked "which lens" , and a suggestion ,from Black Fox , to look at OM System, I may buy camera and two lenses from the importers. Has anyone had to get warranty work done, and how did it work out.
Thanks in advance,
John.

Just once from Panamoz, camera (Sony A7iv) fell off chair and broke left side dial, contacted Panamoz and was told send to Sony UK to get fixed (Sony had to replace the whole dial and internal parts it controlled) £400+ later I sent receipt copy to Panamoz and received full refund for repair cost within about 2 hours. Russ.

Very surprised by that, not a warranty repair as camera fell from a chair. Since I can't get emojis to work I'm writing this with a wide smile, if you bump you're car the dealer won't pay to have it repaired, wonder how Panamoz funded it.
Other option is to buy from MPB, just over £1400 for OM1 ii, however , new from Cotswold around £1250.
Better to forget photography, affecting my blood pressure more than my golf.
Reply to question appreciated.
John

Cotswold, and h.dew use a u.k based camera repair facility in Scotland .. and there very good .. if your getting in a Tiswas over something that hasn’t happened yet then don’t bother , most u.k retailers offer a limited warranty on used gear

May I ask those of you who have used Cotswold cameras, what if any is the difference between items (lenses) sold in the original boxes and those that are listed as being in white boxes??.
Just struck me as unusual to list an item as sold in a "White box", when they are new?.
Thanks Andy.

White box lens usually means it has been taken from a kit that would normally be sold with a body.

They sometimes sell the lens separately from the kit. It's just the packaging the lenses are the same.

Why even bother with this company? I go direct to Japan for lenses not with cameras as of yet. The Japanese say how it is or they "loose face"as they say .If a product is "mint" or Near mint" you would find it hard to tell from new. Even after paying import duty etc the saving made is worth it

But after importing costs prices are not much less than used UK and more expensive than grey plus the hassle of returns and getting refund of import costs from HMG

Because Cotswold cameras, panamoz. Efinity, Etc give a guarantee with their products and the price is known up front. Although I have bought from Japan you don't know the final price until the customs¡/ duty bill arrives.

Which ever way you look at it - a new product is better than a used product (of the same model and specification of course). Maybe this doesn't apply to things like wallets or suchlike that "wear better" over time.

To argue or to suggest otherwise is... surely idiocy?

Not at all.

There are very good reasons for buying such items. It may be that the second hand price is half the new price or perhaps you want this particular item but it's out of production, so you buy a used example. It's also possible that those who buy a previously owned example think that the "idiot" is the person who spends more just to have an unused item.

Though it’s often the state of the used market in the u.k , I often these days find that private sellers especially on evil bay are asking more for used lenses than dealers and saying that a particular lens I’m currently looking at carries a used price for a mki model that’s higher than Cotswolds price for a brand new mkii superior model ..

Of course there are exceptions including out of production and/or rare items where the second hand market is the place to buy.

However, my experiences if buying mainstream, modern equipment (most recently, 2x Canon R5 bodies and an RF100-500 lens) I found that it would cost more to buy used than new through a reputable supplier....tgis is when 'used' to me makes no sense.

My experience is exactly the opposite.

I think you may be displaying an example of the "hasty generalisation fallacy"...

It all depends on price and where the product was bought. Please explain to me on purchasing the 4 or 5 used lenses from Japan that I bought, look like as good as new,and also the latest model .Throw into that a saving of around £1000 make more sense to me against new n the UK.

Seems to me you have never looked at the used photographic market in Japan so commenting on something without having done so.

New or used below?

Possibly so, but after 6 weeks of researching used R5 and RF 100-500 prices in all the usual places and comparing these with the prices offered by Panamoz, Cotswold, Norwich Cameras et al, I'd contest that my buying decisions were both well structured and reasoned and not remotely hasty.....and for the two (new, grey) bodies and lenses, I saved well over £1000 vs buying used.

You appear to be taking this personally, whereas my comments are general.

Well, it's used isn't it, that's the difference, hence the difference in price?

Whether used by the princess of Sheba who treasured it, or an absolute animal - it's used. Each to their own though!

Hi, I just received a Z 35mm 1.8s from Cotswold, took about a week to get here, fine and dandy, kind of like it better than the 50 i have.
It was either pay £700 new retail from UK £450 used from MPB or new from Cotswold for £450.
Would buy from them or Panamoz again

Looks like their address is just round the corner from me. Imagine it's just a registered mailing address.

They are cheapest for a Sony 35mm f1.4 GM

Just had my lens delivered in 8 days, no problem.
However, their notifications / updates were a bit lacking.
They confirmed the order pretty much straight away. then no more comunication until 7.48 this morning saying it was on it's way and I would hear again in 1 or 2 days.
At 9.11 I got a message from some company called EASY LUXURY LTD' via DPD saying my parcel will be delivered this morning...not ordered anything from "Easy Luxury" so Googled them. One of the first responses was a scam alert where someone orders with a stolen card and has it delivered to a false address for them to collect later saying the address was a "Mistake". The parcel was the correct size and weight for what I was expecting so I accepted it and it was my lens.
I've no idea what the conection Easy Luxury has to Cotswold Cameras but it would help if they let customers know that they will get a message from a seamingly random company about their delivery.

Panamoz's notifications / updates I find to be first class

Just made my first order with them. Normally use E-Infinity but Cotswold are a bit cheaper and easier to use PayPal without jumping through hoops.

Happy as long as I get tracking for the last leg so I know which day to make sure someone is at home.

Order date 22.10.2
Processing email 23.10.25
Despatch email 27.10.25 +3 working days

Bought an Olympus lens Sunday night from Cotswold , Thurs mid day got notification of shipping via DHL express with delivery scheduled for Monday , it’s currently at Hong Kong airport booked on next flight ..
At the moment this looks really good service ? Time will tell

Well my lens arrived today. Only got a despatch email this morning.
3 working days total

Just got my order despatched email now.

Is this what normal people feel like at Christmas?!?

£1,600ish for Z7ii and 50mm S f1.8.

Annoyingly I'm going to have to see what their support is like. Big spec of dust on the inside at the back.

Probably not the nicest reason for my first post on the forum. Anyway, I would appreciate your thoughts.

This is the bottom sticker of a camera I just received from cotswoldcameras.

It's definitely not a Sony serial number format. The number in the camera menu is, of course, different. The shop claims that these are regional variations. The camera seems to be working fine. Has anyone had a similar mismatch?

Variations are to be expected but not a difference between the serial on the label and recorded in firmware, I can't even find it in firmware on mine.
The level serial looks similar to yours but has more information on the label and FCC ID for instance.

On my issue they refuse to accept the dust as a defect so I'll have to keep it.
Won't be using them again, back to E-Infinity and Panamoz for me.

Can you not return it under distance selling regs 14 days right to return?

Yes, but incur all the postage costs and by that time it's not worth it for a speck of dust that doesn't actually affect anything.

Do you refer to the serial on the base of your A7C? How many digits does it have?
In 7CR the firmware serial can be found under "Setup - Setup Option - Display Serial Number". It's written into EXIF as well once the option is activated under "Shooting - File".

Further to my comments about Cotswold Cameras communications...I've just had this message

"We're delighted to inform you that your order#1184677 has now been successfully delivered!"
About a lens I received 3 weeks ago! :D

I changed the delivery option on my recent package to a local DHL pick up point.

The tracking gave my a message saying it was ready to pick up from stanstead.

I got no more messages from DHL, so on the off chance popped down to the pick up point and it was there.

Not had any more comms from DHL or Cotswold.

I have found pre purchase comms seem better than post purchase with them.
They had said to contact them once I had the tracking number and they would divert it.
Did this and got no reply, so did the redirect myself
