I have just seen that Cotswold cameras has made an application to be struck off the register at companies house -
 
I ordered a Sony 70-200 F4G Mk II and 1.4 TC last Tuesday 20th May from Cotswold. I had an email this morning to say they were processing my order and I would not be able to change it. An hour ago DPD arrived and handed my order over to me. It seems Cotswold Cameras are very much still operating.

Bought a Sony A6700 from Cotswold last month. No issues, great service. (I have no connection with Cotswold at all).
 
Can I check please. if I order a couple of lenses from Cotswold cameras would I have any import duty if fees when they turn up with the lenses, does any one know how good there warranty is.
 
Camera received, wasn’t sealed, but everything seems in order so consider me happy
 
Interesting thread, I am baffled with grey imports and this company is cheaper than eBay! Those ordering cameras, did you get English language manuals, plugs and the camera setting are all in English as well?

And me. I have bought a couple of very expensive items from them and always been pleased.

No you won't pay import duties.
On bodies they offer a 3 year warranty which you can upgrade to 5 years but I'm not sure if the same applies to lenses.
Cotswold cameras will handle the warranty directly as Canon would know that they didn't come via the legit route
Having said that my R10 was already defaulted to English and I managed to register it with Canon UK.
 
Thanks all. Camera ordered on Sunday evening. UK tracking supplied very early Monday, but I know the camera can not be not in the UK just yet. It is all ready for when it is, though.

Added: Just received an email confirming the camera has been despatched. Good comms so far.

Final Edit: Camera and lens has just arrived. Happy days.

Just bought an Olympus mc-20 teleconverter from them. Took just under a week from placing order to it arriving. Looking at the return address its just a semi detached house in Manchester so either they already had one in the uk or it was sent from China to them. Not quite in the Cotswolds though!

Not much in the way of communication but it was a good price, fast delivery and well packed

Used Panamoz in the past but they seem to be getting expensive. Panamoz price was £450, OM System rrp £400 and Cotswold £269 making Panamoz 67% more expensive.
 
Looking at a Z 50mm lens As Chris has mentioned Panamoz are a lot more expensive!.
But what are Cotswolds like with any after sales problems?

Not sure that I would want to buy a camera body from them unless they were a lot cheaper as their after sales service is an unknown. May be fine, just don’t know. I figured not much can go wrong with a teleconverter so didn’t really concern me.
 
Its just for the 50mm lens, so prob a less of a risk than a body!
 
Just to throw another company into the 'grey importer' pot....today I received a Canon R5 body I ordered from Norwich Cameras.

It arrived 5 days after ordering and all is well with the camera. It registered without fuss on the Canon website.

I normally use Panamoz (and they are fantastic) however, I needed to buy this on AmEx to get a 2 for 1 Avios voucher for an upcoming trip to southern Africa, and that facility is temporarily unavailable with them.

I knew nothing about Norwich Cameras, but was reassured by a couple of speedy and helpful replies to email queries, their Trustpilot reviews and...if things went badly wrong...credit card bail-out!

Communication wasn't at Panamoz levels after ordering, but tracking worked and the price for the body was excellent.

I suspect that you could register anything but getting any real benefit from registering such purchases will be most unlikely.

A: Details regarding the specific warranty offered per product will generally be contained in the product box. In general, products will be covered by a warranty that applies to their specific sales region and it will be necessary for customers to return any products to the applicable region in order to claim a warranty repair. Canon does not generally offer a global warranty unless specifically mentioned for specific products / regions.

You could try contacting Canon to find out if it is a UK model.

I used this service recently to find out if a used lens I bought was UK and received the following response:

Unfortunately as this product was not intended for sale or import in the UK, we do not have any information about its intended area of sale.
For this reason we cannot share any information on its manufacture date.

If you did want to find more information about it, in terms of its functionality or specifications, please contact our Canon support team who will be able to assist you further on:

We typically advise the consumer in such cases where a parallel import has been purchased that you seek redress from the seller from where it was originally purchased.



Not an issue for me as I knew it was an old lens. Possibly more of an issue for you if it is non UK as Canon UK will probably not repair it.

I don't.

The camera has a UK CA EAC sticker on the underside though which i believe indicates it was intended for the UK / European Economic Area markets.

Yeah that’s what I thought. However that seems to have changed - with canon st least; I got an R8 from Best Buy Canada in November, and that has all the UK stickers on the base! No mention of FC which is needed for North America. Ofc it has the sticker in the box for the warranty valid for North America. However, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic do have different stickers.
 
Norwich Cameras website FAQ section claims UK warranty with manufacturer.
 
Just a quick one to say that I've completed my third purchase from Cotswold. Ordered 70-200 on the evening of 5 July and delivered by DPD on the morning of the 11th. Add in the fact I've saved about £650 from the other retailer pricing and I'm pretty chuffed. They've always been responsive if I've emailed them, so I'd recommend them off the back of my dealings with them.
 
Most of these grey importers use a.j.johnson in Glasgow for there multi brand repairs and often give a longer warranty .. my lad bought a canon camera and lens from a local camera shop about 3 weeks ago for well over 3K , his results to date have been to say the least appalling , on contacting there customer helpline the response he got was akin to a chocolate fire guard .
He has now decided to go to Sony with good results in the first weekend of use ..
the point is if u.k high street shops aren’t willing to help out cash paying customers then you might just as well bite the bullet and buy grey
 
How are you guys registering the equipment on canon prof services or whatever they call it now?

What do you put into the box about where it was bought?

When I bought my Canon R10 and lenses from Cotswold cameras I checked the body on the Canon website and it allowed me to register it

I don't remember doing that and Canon have emailed me today about a firmware upgrade for the R10
 
Update to my order I purchased a Canon RF200-800 from Cotswold Cameras last Friday 25th July and it’s arrived today Wednesday 30th no problem bargain price of £1440.00 very happy

Good to hear, I’m planning on getting the RF100-500 and Cotswold are the cheapest option by far.
