I didn't even know you're supposed to declare something like that when you come through customs
So when they're as big as this and have a flashy website and shipping through loads of stuff, how come they don't get closed down? I mean, here we all are discussing them and what goes on, can't they end up in jail or the courts ?

I don't believe thousands of pieces of camera equipment come through customs without being checked, surely the authorities aren't that slack, more likely some creative accounting going on.

From what I can ascertain grey imports aren’t illegal but you can be liable for VAT and import duties. Some grey importers will have the item delivered to them and the post it to you from the UK, this way I believe no duties can be passed on to you.

Some companies ship directly to you and offer to pay the duties should you get charged. You will notice that the item is often marked down at a much lower price than it actually is on the shipping documents.
