Hi all,

I was just Googling for a Sony 24-105 and up popped Cotswold Cameras with the almost too good to believe price of £869. Before I push the button has any one had any dealings with them?

Cheers,

Pete

Thanks Ian, I should have searched the forum! If any admin can delete this thread please feel free.

I've had nothing but good service from Panamoz so if I go grey import it would likely be with them but cor blimey e-infin are cheap!

panamoz sometimes match e-inifin's prices or meet them part of the way.
But panamoz is the only grey seller I have mostly heard good reports for, all other grey importers seem to have their share of good and bad reviews.

I use panamoz for most things, and as @nandbytes says, if you ask them to match E-infinity they will offer further discount.
I'd be tempted to buy the lens from E-infinity though if panamoz couldn't get close.

Used Cotswold on 4 occasions and each time excellent service ... recommended here.

I think the little difference between prices of e-infinity and Panamoz is easily negated by the far more generous guarantee that you get from Panamoz. Three years is better than you get from the manufacturer; a no-brainer for me. (y)

I've found Panamoz prices to be considerably higher than those of E-Infinity. At least in the low to mid range gear.

A lot of the time, it's because they give a 3 year transferable warranty, the others do not.

Check out the E infinity thread. Recent posts about their after sales approach to problems means I would never use them.

I have read and know of enough bad experience to avoid e-infin.

Tbh I mostly buy in the UK and with some patience you can get UK stock at near enough to grey prices.
All my gear in now UK bought and I sleep easy at night :P

Even with panamoz as good as they may be you need to handle the repairs yourself and then they'll refund you. Too much hassle IMO for a warranty claim.

Has anyone used these recently?

@James J

I would personally Avoid Cotswold Cameras if I were you for this reason -look here >>> Cotswold Cameras <<< read the last post #17 .. This was my personal experience back in 2021 and even since then I have not heard their name mentioned in any positive way on this or any other forums ... I would urge you to use CAUTION however its your call ....

I would consider either of these suppliers >>> Panamoz or E-infinity <<<

My X-T2 came via Panamoz and Fuji didn't have any issues on a warranty repair. And when I dropped it in the River Stour I paid the nominal fee to get it sorted, and it came back like new (new top & bottom plate & a new board). But then Fuji after sales service is brilliant compared to most.

Not saying there will be an issue. But you have to pay upfront and then get refunded. If it's UK warranty you only pay for postage.

I didn't pay anything for the first (warranty) repair. Contacted them on line with a copy of the invoice and they sent me the packaging the next day.

"You accept that the role of Cotswold Cameras is limited to sourcing products and making them available for you to import directly from the country of origin. By purchasing a product through this website you authorise our suppliers to make arrangements for clearance of customs on your behalf for the products you have ordered."

Yeah, that sounds perfectly normal.

"You agree that any action at law or in equity arising out of or relating to these terms and conditions shall be filed only in state or federal court located in Hong Kong,"

That's fine.

All seems perfectly normal.

For balance, I ordered and received a Fujufilm X-S10 with kit lens from Cotswold Cameras in early January. Arrived in a week. Have subsequently registered both camera and kit lens with Fuji without any issues. Saved a couple of hundred quid over any other site/retailer. I also had excellent and prompt communication from them prior to and during the purchase process.
Guess you pay your money and take your choice, depending on your attitude to risk.
Not the first time I’ve bought “grey” and unlikely to be the last.

slightly off topic but whatever happened to digitalrev?

I bought 2 lenses from them in 2006/07 imports. Still using the lenses today, but not heard much about digitalrev for a few years?

DigitalRev - Back in the day, they used to be competitive (the place I'd go to), but not now. They still exist but Panomaz and e-infinity are cheaper options.

I've used them in the past for two high value items and had a good experience. They're upfront about being a grey importer and when I contacted them they respoded quickly and accurately. Shipping was as quoted too. I try to use them over other importers now. Cheers
