Cost of Windows UltraBooks

Choices are good to support ones workflow. Not having the choice at all and being forced in one particular way is quite ironic as that is what Windows users always acuse OS X off. Hence a total surprise to me that it doesn't let me.

Yet me and arad work completely differently, so there is choice.

I also work with multiple email addresses. 2 of them are for the same account, but rules on exchange move emails to folder as soon as they arrive and I use the search folders on these accounts.

I also have email going in to different accounts which are separate.

There are options.

As I said, if Microsoft had implemented a unified mail, contacts & calendar system in the OS then they would have been accused of monopoly and trying to lock out competition, just as they were over internet explorer. Apple can only get away with it because they are a minor player in terms of user base. It isn't a lack of choice, but that you are required to provide software to support your choice from another vendor.

The moment you move files to other folders you loose the ability to have continuity on other devices.

Fair enough if all your email is perhaps handled and managed through an exchange server than the experiences may be different. Having multiple open standard accounts like IMAP protocol based, CardDav and CalDav then the experience rapidly becomes a very different one.

Having to move your domains to another server may resolve it but I do find slightly surprising in 2015.

We use cal dav in outlook (you mean ics?)

I disagree and think the contrary. At the moment it is only open to their applications. If they made it available as part of the operating system then it would allow for many different clients to provide new and innovative user interfaces.

When you see what touchmail is doing it is great, but not when you have to duplicate the downloads of your email just to try it out. It becomes a barrier. So whilst I don't disagree I think it is actually the opposite.

Cheers, much appreciated. It is not quite for me as I would like mine locally so I can deal with it on train/plain etc. However it is a very interesting product for a team, especially to deal with other social media challenges as well. Thanks for that....

I've been looking at eM Client which is a very promising product, works great on desktop mode and touch. However it is not quite ready for the prime time, so many bugs and issues for me with support response very slow.

My absolutely favourite is touchmail but currently limited to 3 accounts, and no support for offline folders which is a real shame.

Outlook 2016 on the Mac has got a unified inbox, here is hoping for the PC 2016 edition :)

Strange, works fine on my accounts, both work (exchange) and personal which is based on Gmail (virgin). Folders are all accessible.

On my work laptop I have all three accounts accessible within outlook, without the need for rules as you suggest, they just appear as separate folders and structures in the main left menu. I just added extra accounts.

Also there's a setting on the virgin account when using IMAP to leave a copy behind on the server, so even if you pull down via outlook on the PC, email client on the phone etc, the mail is still on the server. Same with my google mail account.

So I have an android phone and two PC devices (outlook) accessing my email without the issues you mention.

Correct and that is how outlook works for me as well. However that is not providing a unified inbox. I have to check the folder for each account individually. A very different experience then when using osx both apple mail and outlook. Also very different to the capabilities of most smartphone mail clients.

Other than thunderbird, which is rubbish on a hidpi screen, I haven come across a sold unified inbox mailclient in windows. I really do still feel it like a huge step backwards. If the rest of the hybrid nature of the surface pro wasn't as good id move back

Heck I'm now looking at expanding my setup. I use a dell 30" external monitor, I'm now in two minds between either a single 34" curved ultrawide model, or two 27" 4k screens.
