Yes
I currently use Elements 9 but was thinking about just investing in the whole shebang (ie CS5).

The cost is a hard pill to swallow but I notice that on Ebay for example (and other outlets) you can purchase the teacher/student version for a fraction of the cost. Link to it below:

I was just wondering, do you all just fork out and buy the main version or do you rope in a friend/family member that is a student/teacher? if so, I presume you have to go through a process of authentication so will have to rope them into providing photo id etc before you email Adobe and get an activation code?

Seems like a hassle to me (especially if its a quasi friend you are roping in).

The other concern I have is Adobe geting wise to people doing this and deactivating the account etc (then again, i'm sure they dont care that much and cant be bothered with the hassle of hunting perpetrators down).

Thoughts? views?

I'd be interested to hear how you lot go about it etc (if you do)

I'm sure you are aware, but if you are not a teacher or student then what you are suggesting is fraud. :nono:

I suppose that all depends on the particular fact of each case. For example, if you a a child that was interested in photography (and was at school) and you purchased it for them knowing full well you would also be using it then I would suggest that is not fraud.

If on the other hand you had a friend of a friend that was a teacher and asked that they authenticate it for you then yes, I presume that would perhaps be fraudulent.

I was a student last year so decided to make the most of it. I bought CS5 for something like £159 direct from Adobe. You fill out a form and email a copy of proof of being a student (SU card etc). Then when approved, you pay and they send you the disc etc.

For those that may be interested, I spoke with Abobe at length last year about their Student/Teacher discounts. They advised me that I was able to purchase their software at the discounted rate using my brothers student identity, and both of us were allowed to install it onto our computers, despite living in different homes. Their only caveat was that we couldn't both use the software at the same time.

To be certain, I even called their call centre back later in the day and spoke with someone else, who confirmed exactly the same thing. They had no problem with it.

That's pretty much the same story for me.

Tot the original poster though. Just make sure you are buying from someone reputable on eBay. There is a good chance that what you will be buying could be counterfeit in the first place.
