I went to the f1 day at the Trafford Centre today. I have a stack of photos to work through, but my favourates have been lost when transferring them onto the PC.

I put the card in a card reader, did Ctrl - X and the Ctrl -V to paste them into a folder. Durign teh transfer the PC crashed and the card is blank and the photos are not on the Hard drive.:bang::bang:

Is that it? OR can they be rescued?

did you get a lil cd with the card
recovery software?

oh and much better to CTRL-C CTRL-P (copy and paste)
then delete once they're safe

hindsight eh!

ps DO NOT DO ANYTHING THAT WILL WRITE THE THE CARD

I did that yesterday... instead of getting my shots onto the computer... i got some of the computer photos on my xd card and all my new ones are gone :(

what make of cards did you both use (although I suspect the recovery software doesn't know/can't tell)?
I have several recovery discs.....

They'll definitely still be recoverable if you haven't written to the card. Looks like one of the more 'hopeful' cases of data recovery anyway.

Someone mentioned the name of some really good disk recovery software the other day, but I can't put my finger on what it was :$

I use PCinspector (free on the net) and have recovered various cards even after format

Sandisk cards...and I normally use the canon software to transfer onto my laptop, but being in a rush I tried a shortcut....

Whats even more wierd is I shot in RAW and JPG. Some of the missing shots have appeared as JPGS of other raw shots if that makes sense!

SanDisk give away a copy of RescuePro with Extreme III cards - works a treat, even on formatted cards, as long as the card hasn't been used in the meantime.

+ What MMcP42 said above, COPY and paste rather than CUT - far safer and only takes a second or two more to FORMAT the card (in camera) after making sure all the images are safely transferred and backed up.
