Im presumming the grey section at the back is the shutter.

How do i get this to stay up so i can clean the sensor.

Thanks

Phil

in the menu section there is a facility in one of the tools sections to clean the sensor and it opens the shutter for you to do it.....

There should be an option within your menus somewhere for 'mirror lock-up' or similar that will lift the mirror and shutter for cleaning. Check user manual ;)

Ive done the mirror lock up but the shutter stays shut. Ive just put the shutter speed onto 30 secs but it isn't anywhere near enough time.

No, it will be a specific lock up for cleaning found in the menus, rather than the shooting mode lock up which only does the mirror. Sorry I cant be more specific as I am a Nikon user, but someone should know the setting round here.

I'd recommend using the cleaning function if there is one over using bulb mode to hold everything open. By using bulb mode the sensor will be powered up and the static is likely to attract dust at the same time as you're trying to clear it away. The cleaning function as far as I'm aware holds everything open without powering the sensor up.

There is a sensor clean function accessed via the menu. It lifts the mirror and opens the shutter. The whole thing remains in this mode until you turn the camera off.

And for the love of god DONT USE COTTON BUDS!

Use proper tools that are known to be safe to wipe sensors with!
