Hey all, im off to Corfe Castle tomorrow, looks like it will be dry, wether or not it will be misty im not sure but its better than not going right?

Anyway i need a little help with where to park and which route to take up the hill as i never been before

do i park on the red dot, and is the blue route ok to walk up, i do have a dodgy tendon in my foot so looking for easiest route if possible
also how long from car to top?

You can park on the red for free, but theres a little layby where the path and road meet before the climb up the hill, I parked there last time with no issues, tbf the red dot area is an extra two minute walk.

The blue dot is the route up, and took me 10 minutes power walking up

i think it will take me about 20 mins then, i just have to go careful, is it steep?
 
Like Kellet said you can park where the road crosses the river if you get there early. But the extra but from the red dot is flat anyway.

It is not steep, it's hardly a hill. Actually a credit to the shots you see from there, particularly with mist is the truck of the camera to remove scale and make it look epic!
 
Luckily they've cleared a load of the scrub from there as well over the summer, meaning you don't have to get your legs and arms cut to buggery...

as a pro tip... if you're local and want to see if there's mist/fog before you go....

When it's dark you can still make out the outline of Corfe castle on the hill... if you can't see that then it's misty/foggy....

It also helps to soothe your mind... when you're lying in bed and thinking "I really cant be bothered to go out today...." you get up and its misty as hell... a quick check of the webcam reveals Corfe is clear (it has its own little micro climate there) so you don't feel so bad!
 
Keety this is so helpful, after two failed attemps with the mist being in the wrong place both being 7 hour round trips this will be a god send :)
 
In my experience, the 3-4 car park spots right by the gate to the footpath go at some unseen hour - you could arrive 2hrs before sunrise and they'd be gone, so I always park on the red dot and stroll along the road.

7 hours round trip?!??!?! Blimey! I guess if Corfe is a blowout there are other places you can head to.... Corfe is a weir done... the harbour can be completely covered in mist, and everywhere around corfe, but corfe can be perfectly clear and on the flipside, everywhere can be clear but corfe can be covered in mist!

If it is a blowout, you can get nice view of poole harbour and the mist around wareham from top of the hill and there's always the River Frome at Wareham which looks amazing with mist and sunshine!
 
Don't forget if Corfe is a miss and you have made a long trip down you can always shoot down a little further to Kimmeridge bay or onto Durdle Door.
In spitting distance of Corfe.
 
Its a bit of a hoof on foot.... I was thinking for those traveling some distance, there is several locations worth a look. If people are down early for the misty Corfe shots and if that doesn't work out there are some other options and as the days are short and if the weather is on your side you could hang on for sunset at one of the other locations.
Of course there is also Knowlton church on the way back if your heading back up the country.
Just worth doing a bit of planning if your travelling some way and having a plan B, just in case;)
 
I've always parked in the NT car park opposite the red dot, but I see cars parked at the red dot with no issues. I usually walk up the hill parallel with the A351, going north round the little building and then straight up to the green dot. I've been the blue dot way before though and it's much easier, so is probably the best option.

Durdle Door has already been mentioned, but other options if Corfe Castle is no good, are Swanage Pier, Old Harry Rocks at Studland, or Kimmeridge Bay.

If you get a good weekend all those places above are fairly close by car Jan. It might be worth hitting a B&B. There are quite a few around the Bournemouth, Poole and Swanage area that are quite cheap and cheaper still in the winter(y)

I'm not allowed out at weekends...............
Mid week it doesn't matter what time I go out/get home/how long I'm out for :)

Any idea what time they start trying to charge for the car park at Kimmeridge? I've only ever been down in the middle of the night
