Hi there - will probably get the chance to drive "past" Corfe Castle on Saturday - Can any of you locals or others who have visited give me some guidance where to park up to get the best distance views of the castle and its surroundings please?

Thanks, Mel

Hi Mel. Try driving through the village to the car park at the end of the road. You will get a good view of the castle sitting on the hill from there. Sorry, can't describe it any better!

Thanks - will look at Map. Mel

Two locations really, for sunrises turn right at the castle and park up, then walk up the hill in front of you

For sunsets continue past the castle . As you go up the hill into the village turn left and go under the railway bridge (not the one to studland) park on the right and walk up the hill here.

The car park in the village is good for some longer shots

The directions are assuming your heading south from wareham

Thanks. Will post a couple of pics in a while.

I usually park in the National Trust car park, which is on the left as you enter Corfe.

If you want to shoot sunrises then go out of the car park, cross the road and then go through the gate in front of you. From there it's a simple walk up the hill to get views of the castle with the sunrise behind it.

If you want to shoot it at sunset, then the advice that @keety gave you is spot on (although I've always parked at the NT car park). From the NT car park follow the road into Corfe, pass the castle on your right and then take a left turn under a railway bridge. Straight after that there's a sty on the left, with a path (loads of steps) that takes you to the top of the hill.

That's the view from the sunrise hill, and the sunset hill is the one in the photo at the back on the left.

Hope that helps.

Oops, didn't realise you posted this two weeks ago! My bad. Hope you found your way up the hills.

Arrived about 16.00 and took some from above the NT car park (and by luck of a steam train going past). I also took some from over a stile half a mile from the castle on the road that turns right after the NT car park. Not such a good conditions as those in image by Carl above - nice sunset but sky too clear.

BUT I will be going back to capture a sunset and a sunrise sometime this year so thanks for all of the advice.

My images from my 1st visit - sun setting. I think thet need a bit more "atmosphere"?
