Hi all.

I am currently using Coral Draw for my photo processing with pretty good results.
Should I invest in Photoshop though as everyone on here seems to use it or is Coral Draw as good?

:)

Corel methinks!

Two different programs m8, CD is a vector drawing program that has some photo editing capability, PSP is the opposite, a photo editing program that has some drawing capability, you need to decide what you need to use the software for most. That said PSP is not expensive so why not go for both?

Thanks for the spelling lesson, wow your'e so clever

Hi there,

I use Photoshop for editing, like most people on here. However, if I want several images on a page then I use Corel Draw to lay them out, as it is much easier than Photoshop.

Print quality from both programs is the same.

Perhaps you meant Corel Photo-Paint?
If so, then its abilities are very good, Photoshop might be the only program for a... somewhat sensible amount of money, that's better in some ways.

However, why don't you download the trial version from Adobe's website? The trial's a free download. It'll give you an idea whether you need it or not.

Btw., which version of Photo-Paint do you have?

Speaking of paying attention, I wasn't, there's me thinking it was psp not ps he was asking about, so in answer to the original question, photoshop definately isn't worth it, it's many hundreds of pounds unless you can get a student discount or have loads of cash. There are lots of cheaper alternatives (psp being one of them).

Most definately worth getting it with a student discount. Its 'Just' £175 !! with student discount OR "Design Standard edition" which is Photoshop CS3, Indesign CS3, Illustrator CS3, Bridge CS3 • Version Cue CS3, Stock Photos, Device Central CS3, Acrobat Connect & Acrobat 8 pro all for £279 - a saving of £629 over Dabs already discounted price !!! - You can get this version even if you have kids at school. My daughter is doing a BTEC art and design plus Textiles A level so that's how I found out about it!

You can get the "Design PREMIUM" for £445 rather than £1489.

You can even get the "Master version" for £695 rather than £2095, a saving of nearly £1400

Just noticed that Lightroom is only £69 !!!

I have Corel Paint Shop Pro XI

You're best sticking with that m8, PS will not give that much more processing ability and you already know PSP well enough.

A word of warning there - it's a licence that's for purely non-commercial, personal use.
I've asked my local Adobe representative whether the license would be valid after I ended my studies and he said no, the license would NOT be valid anymore.
I don't care much whether they can actually find out whether I still am a student or not and deactivate it accordingly if I wasn't, but if I'm buying it, I want it to to be legal.

That said, the situation with e.g. MS Office for students is different, the license is valid for personal, non-commercial use of the product after I finish school.

So, it's a thumb down for Adobe here from me... it's not like they'd care but :p

Back to the topic - yup, stick with PSP XI, it's a decent piece of software which should serve you well.
That said, I'm unistalling the trial version of PSP X2, as it doesn't offer anything over the GIMP which would make me buy it (or keep installed).
