Morning all,

just looking into this at the minute to add onto my site

something to mention copyright that any pics on the site belong to me and if there used etc and cannot be used without my permission

if there anything particulary to say/ wording and so on?

going to look into detail more today before adding some pics on the site later

Thanks

I'd say keep it simple and brief. something like "all images on this website are copyrighted to "whitey" and unautherised reproduction is forbidden

thats what i was thinking, will be Steven White though not whitey lol

where do i/anyone stand if someone uses an image without permission and so on? nothing can be done?

i found a site but it was slightly confusing lol

Anything created by you, weather it be words, drawings, paintings or photographs are automatically copyright to you upon their creation.

Wording can be anything you like on your site, as its simply a reminder and statement to the facts. ...the images are (As per normal) covered by an owners copyright.

This is mne your welcome to plagiarise it or whatever ...swap it about a bit first eh. ;)

blimey it gets that bad.

the copyright added by Forbiddenbike seems to be what i am after, can i have you're permission to use parts of it? lol

i wouldnt say that bad, but once they use the image, what they consider a reasonable price and what you think is fair tend to differ, and it is more an example of the person who breaks the copyright to deter others from the replies on here.

also bear in mind im talking about 5 i think out of 8000+ members, so not that common, just put a copyright on all your images as well

yeah i do, border with a watermark on it so everyone knows there mine

that copyright bit is what i am after in all honesty, once i have some editing and so on i will add it to my site

You should also add "Moral rights asserted" or "Steven White has asserted his rights under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, to be identified as the creator of this work".

That gives no-one any excuse for using your work without crediting you or passing it off as their work.

Also embed IPTC and EXIF info and use your name as part of the filename. Use otherwise meaningful filenames if you want the images to be spidered. Then when/if your shots get nicked you've got a good chance of stumbling across them when doing an image search. Don't limit such searches to Google - MSN and Yahoo often come up with better or different results.

Nicking part of the work is also infringement, so you might want to use watermarks all over the images and add an apology, explaining your reasons.

EXIF is embedded by digital cameras and some scanning processes. As well as giving technical details of the equipment used, you can add copyright info. IPTC is similar, but more for human rather than equipment details. Both can be stripped, so it's best to use as many lines of defence as possible, in case whoever nicks and publishes online isn't thorough enough about covering your details.

XnView is free for non-profit use (or about £20 for a single licence) and will allow you to enter/edit both EXIF and IPTC info. Another alternative is cPicture which is half the price but has a limited trial period. Both are Windows apps. I don't know the capabilities of Adobe software as I don't use it.

i have had a quick look at both those programs and to be honest i would buy the cPicture software

the only thing i would like to do if possible is run a batch to load and remove the EXIF data on each pic

i think that maybe going alittle more into things though, alittle deep, or is this what everyone does?

We have this at the bottom of each page on our website:

Copyright © 2008 X Photography. All rights reserved.
All images used on this website belong to X Photography and cannot be used without permission.

I ought to buy cPicture. The trial expired and I know the DCRAW plugin wasn't working, but that's cos I didn't know how to set it up. Anyway, there's a bit of a question mark over whether I want to spend a measly tenner on it and I don't like the way it completely shuts you out after the trial.

I think it's just a case of selecting all the images you want and then applying the EXIF info, which can be saved for re-use.

Is this what everyone does? Most certainly not, but I've been surprised by the organisations which will nick and the quality (low) that they'll take. So think of it like an old bike: someone might nick the saddle; somebody else might want the whole bike. But it's yours and although it might be difficult to keep it 100% safe, you can make it difficult or not worth nicking, and easier to spot if it is pinched. On the other hand, it might be fun to lay some traps: just avoid going overboard with your claim for compensation, and be prepared for a long wait and lots of correspondence.

Is that was it comes under 'Moral rights', didn't know that. I'd add that to my stuff somewhere too please ...

Hum - don't think that would work as protection :D:D:D

(sorry - mischevious mood today)

:D

Just for the day I haven't been able to stop for weeks now... :bang: :gag::D

just think i will add a copyright bit at the bottom for now

see how that goes

i know my site used to show the EXIF ata until i took it off and RAW files once ran in PS didnt display it anyway lol

Your moral rights also include the rights to have your work published anonymously or under a pseudonym. They are separate from your economic rights, but are also of monetary value - if someone wants to publish your work without crediting you they should pay more, and only if you agree. Note that press photos are usually published without crediting the photographer.
