I have been asked by a couple to take their wedding photos and supply them on a disk.

I have drafted a quotation letter to them setting out what I will provide, see text below.

I would be interested in some feedback on whether I am on the right track.

"I will provide all photographs of the event on CD, these will be as taken with only minor corrections to enhance the image quality. Images will be supplied in jpg format in colour and black & white. No other digital manipulation will be undertaken unless specifically agreed.

Copyright of the photographs will be surrendered to you, although I reserve the right to use the images in publicity material in printed and electronic format (including any future website)."

Personally i would give them rights to reproduce the images either by way of print or electronically, but retain the copyright.

No no no. Don't assign copyright. They're your photos. You sell them prints. They'll own them and be able to do anything with them. They won't be your photos anymore.
 
I hope I'm not hijacking this thread... well I am hijacking, but I didn't think it was wise to make another one :)

When copyrighting images etc... I see a lot of " (c) 2007, Your Name "

Does that mean that when 2008 comes along, they are no longer copyrighted to you? Or what... ?

And how do you make a copyright official? Do you just add that (c) symbol and your name - then that's it. Should you be paying for some sort of license etc?
 
Copyright is automatic. You take a photo, its copyrighted there and then. People put the date on just to point it out. Thats the date when it was copyrighted.
 
yes i agree never give up the copyright just tell them they can reproduce the phots but the copyright will always belong to you as the photographer:thumbs:
