Copyright - what to include

Hi

I have been asked to produce my first set of photo's for someone. They would like a copy on a DVD so I am thinking of putting a copyright watermark on them all.

I have read various posts about this (the boss is out today so had time to play), but unsure about a couple of things, in RAW uncropped etc my images are 3456x2304, how big should I make the copyright? and also what should I include, e.g do I put my name and the copyright sign?

As far as I'm aware, Your name/Company name with a Copyright Symbol and the year is sufficient.

It just shows the year you took the photo, and who it belongs to.

I wouldn't know about your other questions though.
 
If they are just prrofs, which I'm guessing they are as you want to write on the images, then just write "Proof © Your name" also just supply a low res jpeg and keep the RAWS, again unless thats been specified by your customer.

What have they asked for, and for what usage?

She just wants them for her own reference, they are modelling / studio shots. I will be creating a photobook with some of the best ones in but she would like to have them as JPGS as well.

I was thinking that if I gave her high quality ones that I should include my name somewhere on them.
 
if she wants them for her own reference make them 800 pixels wide jpg for viewing on pc but include your © R Wooton 2007 at the bottom. If they are high quality jpg make the © R Wooton 2007 very large straight across the middle, and include Proof Only under your copyright logo.

or she will probably be getting them printed else where.
 
I'm not sure that you should just "give" high quality photos just for a reference, if your being paid and usage has been agreed and paid for, then thats fair enough. Otherwse I would write right accros the centre of the photo...and a low quality one at that. If they are just for reference then web sized is more than adequate ie 200kb filesize and 800-1000 pixels longest edge. If she wants bigger and better I would have to ask "Why?"

Making them 800 on the longest side is a good idea, maybe I was just trying to be too nice :)

Any pointers on how large the copyright info should be?

I dont think this is unreasonable..

It can still be used for reference but be unusable for anything else. You can tone it down a bit if you like by applying layer style in photoshop to make it "Embossed" then drop the "fill" down in the layers paleete to zero, just leaving a clear embossed copyright text.
