Yes
I don't use Instagram, and have no intention to, however, I was just looking on a football site, and then followed a link to a story where people had taken pics of themselves, and each image said © Instagram. Does Instagram take the copyright of your image? I know you have to some elements of copyright being given up for any image hosting site to be able to display your images, but for Instagram to put their copyright on images seems a bit odd. Especially on 'selfies' where there is no doubt who took the picture.

Probably common knowledge, and has been discussed before, but I haven't seen it mentioned.

You don't give up any copyright just by posting on any website - unless you agree to it.

Instagram, Facebook, etc. have an agreement in their terms and conditions which you agree to on signing up which allows your images to be shared - but nothing more.

Steve.

I know that, but these images said © Instagram. Even if they are allowing an image of yours to be shared, with consent, it is still your copyright. Or at least it should be imho.

So Instagram are asserting Copyright they don't have?

Welcome to internet capitalism. At least Richard (*) Turpin wore a mask...

(*) not allowed to say Dick here!

Maybe they do have some ownership of the Copyright, and people have not read the T&Cs. Seeing the Instagram © logo instead of the individual in the selfie was the reason I started the thread.
