I'm sure I read somewhere (though I may have dreamed it, that happens a lot!) that there's a way to copyright your image information. (So on the image information that comes up with everything, it can say your name). Is this right? What program?

You can also watermark the photo you show on the internet to stop it being hijacked. Hopefully !!!!

some people have the image in a border on the photo others have it as part of the exif

I know that. I meant when you look at the information on the photograph itself (what camera it was taken with, f stop, date etc) i'm sure I read somewhere here someone said there's a program that can't print the copyright of your name (etc)on that information.

You can watermark the photo you show on the internet.

As above :)

It's in the EXIF data.

Most cataloging programs like Lightroom, Aperture, ACDSEE etc can apply this info. I have this applied on import, and you can also set it in the camera in some cases.

If you then want to take that info and apply it onto the image so it appears visibly, then again you can use the same tools (but in different ways)

Lightroom (I'll reference this as I use it) can apply what it calls a copyright watermark on export. Essentially it puts your name on the lower edge of the image.

Lightroom has a plugin available (for free) called Mogrify. This allows you to stamp data from the EXIF as text, so filename, copyright info etc.

We discussed it in this thread a while ago

I havent tried it but apparently it lets you sign your image with an invisible copyright signature.. http://www.adptools.com/signmyimage/eng/index.php

Should my imsges ever be good enough to steal I think I'd want copyright to be visible rather than waiting for a spider to happen across it!

The Issue is though that social networking sites, blogs and forums are full of images that are visually copyrighted. I know my pictures are posted in Facebook profiles that I have no direct access and if this software can identify them then I have evidence that Facebook have to act on.

By the way, all images are good enough to steal if you have a purpose for them and looking at your published link there are pictures on there that are goods enough

I think what you're refferring to is the name thats embedded in the camera itself. Once its in there, every photo that comes out of the camera has your name embedded in the EXIF data. To do this, you need to install the Canon software that comes with the camera, and when you plug the camera into your computer, the EOS Utility should fire up. Within the menus (preferences I think, only did it last week to remove my name before moving a camera on!) you will find an option to put your name into the camera hardware. You only need to do this once with the camera connected. Once its in there it stays and records to the CF card/picture file every time you take a shot.

To get it into the exif data, one of the Canon utilities that came with your camera should do it. Can't remember which one.
