I am about to make a DVD slideshow of photos for a customer and I want to add some background music.

I know I can’t add music that I have to it because of copyright, but what if the customer supplies me with music that they have purchased am I able to use it then:thinking:

Thanks
Julian

I would think not, unless it's the customers own production. They're still file sharing by giving you the file.

You can buy royalty free soundtraks somewher-not quite whitney houston, but at least its legal.

I thought that once you buy the music, whether it be a CD or an MP3, its yours to do what you want with it ...Could be wrong though...

Its when you start distributing it en masse that causes the problem...Which you are clearly not going to do...

Bang goes that idea, anyone know where to get cheap royalty free music from.

No when used for professional things is illegal-as you are kinda claiming the work as your own-so breach of copyright.

Thats like saying if someone buys one of your images they automatically can do what they like with the images

Thanks grendel, $99 for an album was hoping that it would be cheaper than that.

Decision time now, to I just give a DVD slideshow with no music or with some crappy royalty free stuff for $99

I know that watching a slideshow with no music is

jpd300(what does this mean?)
i looked into using music for the 8 sports videos we (www.sportysnaps.com) created last year, i looked into the legal side of it and also the options - all of which apply to a slide show that you sell to a client.

if you buy a cd from a shop you can use the music on it to listen to and that's it, any re selling, public performance, sampling etc without pemission is a breach of the copyright.

you can pay a fee to use any bit of music you like in a product you sell, but the prices can be very high for the stones, queen, abba etc

the third option - and the one i used and recommend is to use is to buy a DVD of royalty free music - don't pay for a royalty free download, buy a physical disk from the original owner(you will get a document saying the use allowed) - second hand royalty free music is breach of copyright.

i looked at lots (and lots) of websites - two of the best (cost/music) are

www.akmmusic.co.uk
www.notepadmusic.com

i have brought over 10 dvd's from the above - well worth the money - samples of all the tracks are on the websites

ps you are in Wales - anywhere near Swansea/Neath?
