I have the opportunity to acquire a Nikon of-4 copy stand ( originally purchased by the seller back in the 80’s ) however I am struggling to find out what it’s maximum payload is .
Does anyone on here know ?

If you're planning on using an LF camera, I'd be tempted to rig up some sort of support for the back-board (?) of the camera rather than rely purely on the tripod bush. An LF camera's centre of gravity is rather further from the bush than that of a 35mm rig which I would guess is what Nikon expected people to use, although they might have expected some MF use.

That’s the figure I’m hoping for tbh to mount a LF camera on it that will weigh in excess of 3kg , nearer to 4kg probably.

The "look" of it makes me think the column & camera positioning element is built for weigh handling and the stability that a copy stand needs. In the picture it looks like the camera would be held by the tripod mount....which I find a tad odd because there is the chance of it not being 100% square on to the table? So perhaps (assuming the max weight on the column element is right) there appear to be further holes to maybe make on intermediate plate for the LF camera.

Oh, it is not clear in the picture whether the camera mount on a chain or cable mechanism for moving it, or at least damped to avoid sudden crashing down the column is not handled well???

When I get home I’ll post up some images of the one that I’m considering as they may help with assessing its suitability.

These photos are what the seller has posted in the advert ....clearly he isn't a photographer lol

To update on this.

Having obtained additional images and details, I’ve decided that this stand is perhaps not going to be suitable .

I have however found that my present enlarger for smaller formats may be adaptable.
The head which I have easily removed weighs almost 5kg so the column, the rise and fall mechanism and base board attachments will comfortably support my LF kit.

I do have to make a slight adaptation ( in theory 100% reversible) to mount the 10x8 outfit but it looks like it shouldn’t be too complicated.

Nonetheless I will start a new thread in the f&c section with pics toexplain my idea and obtain advice from those of you who are more adapt at these types of things;)

Thanks to those who replied in here, much appreciated :)
