So my cancer treatment is still going fairly well.. the treatment causes more problems than the cancer.. but on the right track

One of the side effects is tiredness and fatigue... mine was getting so bad i went to doctors... long story short... chest xrays show emphysema (COPD) an incurable lung disease... hmmm not a good 18 months having not one but two horrible diagnosis.. This one certainly takes your mind off cancer though.

Anyone else in another club nobody wants to be in ?

All I can say is hopefully, as you have found with your cancer treatment, that whatever therapies they provide for the COPD that it will be under control and that life will be as OK as it can be for you.

Cheers..... its like a comp, Cancer, Lung disease or old age.. which one will get me... Probably get run over by a bus and beat them all ;)
 
COPD whilst not curable, nor an immediate death, threat there are many medications on the NHS now that can slow the disease down ,I was diagnosed with COPD in 2002 after spending years in the Mid East in a dusty environment, with the right treatment mostly inhalers and one can live a near normal life .

I haven't had my spyrometry test yet to see how bad. 6 mth waiting list . They gave me an inhaler and spacer but seems to make thing worse. I have been accepted into a pulminary rehab course starting soon.

My worry is how fast it's coming on. Last Yr I was doing a 3 mile walk including a steep hill. Now I do a flat 2 mile and I can hardly breath or talk at the end. Some days can't make it at all. I run out of breath when talking stuff like that.

My cancer is stage 3 aggressive. I worry that's what my body does. Aggressive rather than slow. If it's moved on that much in one year then :(


Ps I did smoke but not for 28 years now.

Fortunately it is all under control and the COPD is progressing slowly but inexorably, the others should have killed me years ago but thanks to modern medicine I am still here, how long for is anyone's guess .
I just hope the end is another heart attack, that was quick and I just went to sleep, no pain just cardiac arrest
 
I was diagnosed with COPD about 10 years ago. Was proscribed Ventolin and another inhaler I can't bring to mind. I'm an ex 60 a day smoker although its been over 20 years since I sucked on a coffin nail the damage was done.
This year I went to see my local practice nurse who asked me how my COPD was going and I was honest and told her the inhalers did nothing and hadn't for a long time. To my surprise she said she wasn't surprised. I was changed onto Anoro Elipta a more modern drug, what a difference most days I no longer feel like I have COPD.
 
This site pretty much covers everything about lung conditions, they also have a forum which is pretty active, I'm surprised your GP only gave you one inhaler though.

My COPD is treated with a trelegy triple action inhaler, possibly some of the other medication I take is for that but I think the rest came after my stent was fitted to help ward off the need for a double by pass, I have 70% lung function to contend with so a change of pace is my biggest aid although I do take detours to avoid hills, even walking too fast downhill can cause breathlessness, so slow but steady is my way.
 
horrible thing COPD I was a smoker as well from about 18 and gave up at 38 never touched anyting since not even a vape but i wonder about the long term effects

Scary stuff.. 14 to 40 then nothing for 28 yrs then get copd :( Like anyhting else I suppose.. check regularly watch out for signs and catch early thats the key catch early
