Coohullin's 52 - Week 26 Beginnings (pg 10)

Really like your 1st image it looks 3D. The end of the newspaper is so crisp and sharp

Originally looked at the two pics on my iphone and didn't like them but after been on my desktop I like number one, it is kind of jumping out at me, I like it,

Just for Phil.....and Dean!

Thanks for reshooting - I think the angle of the paper works well, but because the shooting angle appears higher, you've lost the 'in your face' feel of the first shot.

I think I want a compromise between the two!!!

Phil

I like the first shot Carl, but with maybe the angle of the second.

Tough crowd this week......;)

Well here are another couple of attempts (with letterbox included!)

Post 3 -

Post 4 - which is Post 1 without the severe crop

'Post' 3 all the way Carl. The tips above have helped the composition and image in general to be much more pleasing on the eye. Spot on.

Good to see the good old Yorkshire Post geting in on the act.

I'm gonna go with #4 of post for this week... Carl, the first was a great idea though and very close. I bet you got odd looks opening and closing the door to put the paper through :D...

Well I have some catching up to do....

Week 24: Metal -

I shipped a motorcycle over from the USA recently but it has taken me 2 months since it arrived in the UK to get it road-legal and registered in the UK so the first pic is the metal license plate that I got to remove last week.

And probably more shrapnel than metal but that regular occurence of pulling a handful of change out of a pocket!

Week 25: Grunge -

I went with a bunch of CDs from that particular genre of music....really the only thing which says grunge to me.....tried to get them a little messy and haphazard to echo the whole scene......

I like the handful of coins. I hadnt even thought of that for metal. I didnt even know any grunge groups but googled them. You have a bit of a collection there so that definitely fits the theme. Well done.

Didn't know that grunge was a style of music so something new learnt today.

I prefer the first one, I find the oof text on the Screaming Trees in the second a bit distracting.

I think the handful of coins works best for metal... not sure what it is about the plate... congrats on your bike though.

I prefer the first of the two cd shots for grunge... just seems to work better...

Congrats on the new bike . . . and on finally getting it road legal.
As an image I'm not sure that the red b/g or DoF work very well in this, but it's a great marker in your 52 to remember when you got your bike on the road.

The coin image is very clever for the theme though. The diagonal composition works well, but I think I would have preferred it with your fingers fully in shot.

And grunge. First one for me too.
I can't quite put my finger on why, but it just seems to work better for me.

I also had a similar idea for Grunge this week but then found I put all my music on the pc and sold all my CDs. Damn.
Out of the two photos I prefer the 1st image, not sure why, maybe its because it doesn't seem so busy.

Ahh She is cute and nice photos which fit the theme. I like the second picture best showing her little feet beginning to walk. The other picture would have been better if you had got her feet in. I guess they moved too fast for you.

Bit of catching up to do!

Post: A simple but neat idea - but I love the perspective you've captured. #1 and 4 do it for me. I think that's the view our dogs must get when they attack anything coming through the letterbox, and your shot looks so 3-D that I'm expecting them to attack my scomputer any minute.:lol:

Metal: Well done on gettin all the red tape sorted out for your bike - I hope you're now enjoying riding it. The shot of the licence plate is a happy, feel-good picture, and I like to for that reason, but the handful of change is clever and I particularly like the lighting.

Beginnings: Awww - she's very cute. I can imagine it's not easy keeping up with her now she's walking. :) Both shots could do with a little more room on the right (her left) side, I think, but I realise you had a difficult enough job! :) I like the pov and she's got a lovely expression in both pics. I like the less cluttered background in #1, but I think, on balance, I'd choose #2 because it shows her actually taking a step and she's got that lovely slightly wobbly look babies have when they start walking - almost as though they can't quite relate to what their legs are doing. Definitely a good Beginnings!

Lovely shots of the your niece's first steps and they certainly fit the theme I think I like the second shot best the colours and her expression just have the edge over the first for me.

2 cracking shots, very exciting times...mainly for her as she gets to explore new things.
Out of the two I prefer the simplier background of #1

always makes me laugh when the take their first steps and their first words and you spend the rest of your life telling them to sit down and shut up, lol.
but serious, for me image 1, cleaner simple image, nice shot ;)

 She's beautiful.

Of the two I prefer no.1. For me there seems to be better eye contact and the cleaner background definitely gives it the edge.

However, I see what the others mean about no.2.
I wonder if there's a better image there if you just cropped in really tightly on her feet - I could see that working in B&W.

A pair of lovely shots Carl, they fit the theme nicely.

grunge is a difficult one, the CD's do say grunge to me but as an image it isn't all that interesting. Im not sure what you could do to them personally other than stick them on the CD player and forget about a nightmare theme.
Beginnings, cool what a cute little girl. The colours are nice and bright and its sharp, it may benefit from a wider aperture to isolate her a bit from the background.
