There's a lot of booze in this weeks submissions ;)

This is really very nice, the angle, muted colours and DOF all go to make up a very nice shot.

Quad: the first is nowhere close to the second in terms of impact. The 4 dalmations is a lovely shot. Well composed and well thought out.

Of all the Shoot attempts, it's the first that gets my vote. I really like the composition, lighting and subject choice. Spring is on the way!

Single: Another strong composition and although the subject matter doesn't do much for me, it would make a great product shot.

Jean - not sure what you are seeing in those carrots that nobody else sees!!!

Not normally a fan of selective colouring but it seems to work on this one.

Fits the theme perfectly :thumbs:

Hi Carl - I like your shot for stare & I like selective colouring - this is a good candidate for that treatment. If I could just suggest a slight tweak - the edges of the iris's look a little fake - I'm not sure how you selected them but I wonder if it is worth another go, perhaps feathering the edges while you are doing it!

Nice interpretation of the theme but I am not a fan of selective colouring ( I know I am boring :lol:) but very crisp, clear shot and very brave one, I would not attempt it. :thumbs: goodness know what we would end up with :lol:
 
Agree with Phil. There's something not quite right about the irises. Would prefer to see this incorporated into a more standard size shot, maybe in the middle of a black canvas with some heavy burning round the eyes as though you're looking out from darkness.
 
I thought about doing the selective colouring but went with B&W. Your's works well - good angle and lighting.
 
I really like the panoramic crop on this one - it draws me completely into the eyes. I'd like a black border top and bottom to finish it off, but that tight crop really works well.
You've managed to keep the eyes pin sharp too. Not easy in a self portrait, but you've pulled it off brilliantly.

To echo what other people have said, this is one of those shots where selective colouring works well, but I have to agree with the edges being a little harsh.
If you've done it via a mask it might be a good idea to revisit with a softer brush or if it's a selection, try feathering the edges a little more as Phil suggested.
 
It's a really good idea, and it works well... there's something about the colouring in the eyes though that doesn't seem right. I've no clue as to what it might be, but the others are probably spot on.
 
Rather than re-iterate, I'll just say that I'm in agreement with the above comments re: the eyes.

Just to be boring, I'm another one with similar feelings on this...love the crop, love the sharpness/texture but there is something that would benefit from tweaking with the iris it just looks a little too layered and I'm sure could be sorted quite easily to make this a very striking shot :thumbs:
 
I like the crop but not sure about the selective colouring on this one - might work better for me if your eyes were blue, but there is not much you can do about that!
 
:) Nicely executed Carl....great take on the theme! I think a little more contrast between hand and face might be good but all in all great shot! Hmmm now between the two ...can't decide, I like the black and white but then that psychedelia is just great :)
 
Another vote for the colour image Carl, I think it works well.
I like you struggled this week for ideas but I think your image is spot on.

A good take on the theme... Whislt the pop art works, it's a bit much for my liking... so I'm gonna go with the mono version
 
Definitely the psychedelic version - the B&W doesn't have much impact IMO, but I love the coloured version!

Nice one Carl. I took exactly the same shot for my effort but it looked crap because I didn't pay attention to composition. Having your eyes OOF through your fingers has made the shot something a bit different, hence it works.

In terms of "which is better", I'd say the psychadelic one wins for me. But that's just because your fingers are the focal point. If you'd made your eyes the focus point with the fingers OOF, I'd imagine the B&W version would have much more impact.

Quad..... the second shot works really well with the 4 shots merged.

Shoot...... the first shot is a cracker with the light on the shoot and the rest of the shot dark.

Single..... the diagonal composition makes this shot stand out with nice warm tones.

Stare..... I can just see all the 'I'm not a fan of selective colouring but...' like the idea, just needs the colour to pop a little more for me.


Peace..... the second psychedelic wins by far :clap:

Very nice! I cant find a single fault with this shot, its sharp, well lit, a good take on the theme! Well done!
 
A good interpretation of the theme.

Good lighting and compostion. Really sharp. The only niggle for me is the marks on the plastic. I assume it's icing sugar but it looks a little distracting. I know how easily the chocolate shows up the slightest of marks though.
