Hi - I have bought an iMac (from these forums) - being delivered Sat. Has anybody got a link to a good resource for newbies on Macs please? I am reasonably competent with windows, but have never used a Mac. I believe the model I am getting has OS 10 x on it (?)

Thanks

Tim

i too want to get into the world of mac, so this thread would be an interest

The Switch 101 guide on the Apple website is probably the best place to start.

I agree, this is probably the best place to start: http://www.apple.com/support/switch101/

I have only ever owned Macs, specifically iMacs (I have owned one of each model since they came on to the market!), and currently use the 20" iMac (released 2008). You will be very happy with your purchase, they are a great machine.

It looks like there are many Mac users on these forums, so just shout if you have any questions.

welcome to the mac world :)

first thing - play, just run your mouse over the menus and see what's there, and look at the shortcuts and start to learn them, you'll probably recognise a lot of them because wintel adopted many of the mac conventions

try spaces and you can have any number of separate desktops to work on

Moved to Mac 14 months ago.

Changing over is no great deal. You'll be surprised how easy it is.
As stated earlier. Just ask.

There are quite a few switchers tips in my top tips thread. The link is in my signature. You will be surprised at just easy it is.

If has os 10 could be power pc or intel as came in half way through,if power pc you can get office for mac older version,if intel you can run boot camp and install windows on a partion of hard drive so have both,or go in to parallels and run both side by side, but if you run a virtul machine within a machine it will slow things down, for ease run parallels so can work with both at same time, for faster operating then use bootcamp and boot to what you need at each time [windows or os]but both have draw backs as you have to decide what volume you want to boot to with boot camp and parallels working machne inside machine will slow things down.Beef up ram!
Adivce leave windows to your pc that you have lying around and just enjoy os for what it is,buy a book, and get going ;=D
