Up until now I have always shot in RAW. However, shooting in JPEG makes for quicker downloading of files and no problems with the buffer of the camera filling up when on multiple shot.
The JPEG files out of the camera are 4896 x 3264 pixels - 68" x 45.33" - at 72 DPI.
To print, 300 DPI is the normal.
Question, is it OK to convert the JPEG image to a TIFF image at 1800 x 1200 pixels (6" x 4") but at 300DPI? That way I can re-edit the picture with no loss of quality, or am I being too simplistic?

Once converted to JPG the image is 8 bit, there's little point in upconverting to TIFF, even at reduced resolution (after all, JPG compresses colour/brightness gamut).

Your jpeg @ 4896 pixels will print up to 16" @ 300dpi. No advantage in making a tiff. There is a huge advantage in shooting raw however!

Does your camera have a tiff option? some do. if your re-opening and editing images multiply times their might be some advantage. Personally in that situation I'd use ajustment layers and save out a master PSD, then just make a new jpeg each time with the changes from it at each days editing or whatever.
Ideally raw sounds a better option for what your doing as it's non distructive editing from the start.

Thanks for all the advice and apologies for not responding sooner. May I PM you Wayne for some further technical advice?
