Does any body know the best way to this? I realise there are plenty of software apps around but in your experience what is the easiest and most trouble free one? It is mostly for downloads from the iTunes store.

Thanks.

Right click on the file in iTunes, convert to mp3 if its there. I think that only works with iTunes+ tracks because of the lack of DRM.

you cant convert .aac files that are protected (from itunes store basically!) you'll need to use a proprietary program that gets round the protection on these files, this is what i dislike about itunes store, whilst its a bloody brilliant online music archieve the protection means that i cant use the file ive legitimately bought on anything other than itunes as WMP doesn't like them which means that anything i download from itunes i cant put on my phone or on another player.

Download tunebite and re-record it at 2x speed you'll need the lame.dll aswell no DRM when it comes out the otherside!

A pain in the butt way is to drop them into a playlist and that can be burned to disc, which can be played on a CD player, or ripped to MP3 if you want to.
