The sigma fits the d5100 and sigma 120 -400 not tried any other lens

yeah, sigma makes all of there lenses to fit most brands, I don't think sigma actually makes there own dslr's

Any Nikon-fit telecon will work. I'd be more concerned about the loss of aperture, AF issues, and reduced image quality.

I'm afraid nikon teleconverters won't work with this lens unless you modify them. The best value tc is sigma's own 1.4, optically it's very good but you will loose autofocus, your viewfinder will be very dark and the effective aperture of the lens will be f9, f11 if you stop down a smidgen. Bear in mind your then playing with an effective focal length of 1000mm plus on a crop sensor, your going to need some sort of support be it a monopod, bean bag or tripod. I tried the sigma tc's on my 150-500 when I had the lens and decided it was too much trouble to be honest.

Wait... Have I just totally misunderstood the question?

I would if I was in your shoes bud.

Not correct.

Correct.

But I'd share both those contributors' concerns about aperture, AF and image quality.

My mistake. Apologies.

I've used a Kenko Pro300 DGX 1.4x converter with a Sigma 150-500 OS on various Canon bodies and get some great shots. I used that setup on a 5D2 and 7D to get some great moon shots and I recently used it on my 5D3, with the updated firmware, and it still got auto focus. It wasn't fast by any means but it still locked on to the subject and gave a decent shot. It does need good light to AF though.

I've not yet tried it on my 1D3 so I have no idea wether it would AF on that but I will try it when I get round to it. Like the others above have said though, you're very likely to have problems with the AF but the IQ should still be quite good.

My mistake. Apologies.
I wouldn't ever expect to catch you out on a Canon issue, Richard. But Nikon stuff is ... different. Sometimes surprisingly so. Stay well clear if you value your sanity! ;)

That little tab is most frustrating. I wanted to put one on my Tamron macro, can't, or stack the 1.4 and 2 for a moon image but no.....
