It's hardly controversial just looks like another case of people with a superiority complex bashing people for doing things they did. For full effect the author should have included the selective colour slump and the long exposure doldrums then he would have hit all the look how much better I am than you cliches.
Guess I just don't get it or I'm still in the HDR slump and will catch on as soon as I'm good enough!No.. it's funny... because it's true.

Only if someone adds selective colour and a motorway light trail otherwise how will I judge my progress! Let's not over look the classic scape goats and just focus on HDR it's just not fun.You may wish to revisit and re-assess the graph a year later![]()
It's dull is what it is...not particularly this graph as this isn't really all that much about HDR but photography in general and it's quite true in what it presents but what is dull is belittling other photographers for playing or experimenting...it's a nasty little trait![]()
It's a joke... stop being so serious. Perosnally I think it's true... but it's still a joke.. much as this thread is.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions... and to voice them... whether you like their opinions or not. No one is directly poking fun at any individuals here. We're just making a wry observation on the stages of photographic development.
It's amusing that those who have already gone through this and come out of the other side can recognise it for being true... yet those that are still playing with techniques and gear for the sake of it are offended by others merely pointing this out.
Tough.
, it does happen all to often
But it's funny or should that be mildly offensive? Apparently I've missed the point if the thread so maybe this term falls under the banter catch all for simpletons?"gearfaggotry"? Really?
Just as the usual bunch decry anything that's art as being a load of [PLEASE DON'T TRY TO BYPASS THE SWEAR FILTER], pretentious and elitist just because they're too stupid to understand it?
yeah.. annoying isn't it. Reverse snobbery is OK though it seems
If people find my knowledge useful... I'm happy. It's still useful if they don't like me though... so I'm still happy.
The bit that I've bolded there is the biggest issue David, some people don't really have an interest in the art they simply take enjoyment out of taking at least to them nice photos, I probably fall in to that category a lot of the time...is it to you or anyone for that matter to look down on people for that? Because I really don't think it is and it's a horrendous attitude to have in my opinion that someone is consider stupid for not have interests matching yours...
I think your being a little unfair. I don't think David is calling people stupid because they don't have an interest in art but rather the inane comments they sometimes make when discussing some award winning photos because they don't comprehend the concept
Steve
Doesn't matter Matt. Whenever like minded people and I are having a conversation about work we admire the thread always gets bombed by the usual people who start making the same stupid comments: "It's all crap... ", "Emperor's new clothes", and the perennial favourite, "Those that can, do, and those that can't teach".
"gearfaggotry"? Really?
I know more with no sense of humourMy favourite inane comment is "It's a joke... stop being so serious." I hate it when people tell other people they're not allowed to hold opinions, don't you?
Wow...
I just wasted 13minutes of my life reading this thread....![]()
Too much damned seriousness going on here.
