Yes, because being on the right side of the law is really the 'moral high ground'...

Well I guess I did not realise that morailty was now universally agreed? :D Try telling that to Edward Snowden. :D Not that I am really bothered by his exploits but it illustrates my point.

The next time I read something in the press about a photographer being arrested for taking a photograph in a city street I will remember that law enforcers have morality on their side and will be demanding that the photographer is hanged. :D

It all depends on the law. Some laws in some lands are unjust. It also depends on the individual. The law does not have a right to moral high ground.

As a group of people with a common interests photographers can be a really annoying group of people so I am asking everyone here what it is that annoys you about other photographers..
o_O Not much really, maybe I don't hang around with annoying ones enough.
I've been at popular locations with loads of photographers, been on dedicated hobby photography visits ... never been annoyed by them, and seriously : loads of stuff annoys me usually!

My pet peaves...?

People who list every bit of photo gear they own in their forum signature, like its a badge of honor. I really dont care what gear you have, I would rather see the photos you shoot.

Especially the ones who feel the need to tell us that their camera is 'gripped' (who cares?) or who list their Canon L lenses or Carl Zeiss T lenses and change the font colour of the L or T to red to make it stand out. Yes, you have a nice expensive lens and feel the need to draw everyone's attention to this - but it doesn't necessarily mean your photos are any good though! :p

Photographers that miss the best light, one of my locations I love to visit is Chesterton Windmill, certainly locally it is the most photographed landmark, but I've lot count of the amount of times I've been up there and sat in the car for an hour not even getting out or touching my camera because the light is awful and they'll be dozens of photographers turning up and shooting, yet the evenings where the light is superb and I'll be the only one there shooting...great for me  but I do wonder why on the best evenings always seems to attract the least photographers

LOL at that - seriously if you are reading this and this is you, you look like a tool and need to change it!

*edit* or state your reasons for doing so to justify your need to tell the world you have a grip ;)

I've never heard anyone say Phot.
The only place I've heard the term used regularly is within the Navy (when I worked in Portsmouth), so it may well be a standard military term. Personally, I hated it for no other reason than phonetically it doesn't sound very nice.

FWIW I've been a paid snapper, lensman, monkey, smudger, toggie, poet of light 'n' shade, oi w*nker, 'my' photographer (reporters use this little gem), etc for nearly 30 years - so in reality I'm nothing more than an old fart!

Well I put the my cameras are gripped and a few times I've been asked how I get on with the grip...personally I think criticising others choices is far more tool like ;)

Is this the point where I say, come on lads get a grip? :p
Afterall its only somewhere to stick another battery if you are too lazy to carry one around with you :D

(Yes OK I do use one sometimes too, but not sure if I like the weight or not)

Minor gripe, but bird toggers that spend thousands on kit, then ask for ID on a common bird. Buy a fieldguide, they are cheap.

Indeed for me it's noting to do with weight/balance it's all about wanting as long as possible before fresh batteries are needed as even if it only takes a few seconds to change a battery for a star trail you'll still get a small gap, and that's if your constantly watching the camera to know its died, plus touching the camera to change a battery will like or not move the camera a little thus killing the use of the frames post change anyway

Worth noting the edit to the post I quoted post quote also :(

I use a grip on my D800 and did on my D700 but i think its purely because im used to how the larger D3S feels in hand, with the D700 it was more for getting the 8fps but it did improve the "holdability" is that even a word LOL

I once heard it described as "Willy Waving". :D

Dave

Edit: I should have added that it really doesn't bother me, but given the above phrase was used on a photography forum, it clearly bothers some people.

I've nothing against grips.
But saying things like "shot with my gripped xxxxx" always seems a bit random. I don't mind people mentioning the lens used, but a grip seldom makes a difference to image quality!

Its only a hobby for me, I have a real job.

Thank goodness I have never had a 'Real' job! Been paid for a hobby for the last 25 years is much better..........

As for grips, i always buy them as the camera body looks unfinished, cut in half. + Im a lazy B'stard and dont like carriing extra batts in pockets.....

Members on here that spend all day every day helping folk with their photography ((y)) but we never get to see any of their own work.

And

The opposite of the above, the very talented photographers that post plenty of photos but never offer any help or explanations as to how they took the shot.

And to continue that line of thought,
people that post images just to pimp their site / flicker. (ie one shot posted with the "rest is here")
And / or never come back and acknowledge the critique or accolades, nor do they ever comment on other peoples work.

nor do they ever comment on other peoples work.

To be fair to some they probably dare not comment or are thinking is it worth it. I see plenty of people here getting a right roasting for commenting on anothers image. TP is a pretty aggressive forum. :)

I think that largely depends on the "section",
Some are certainly more "aggressive" as you put it than others ;)

I think what's becoming more common (and is probably equally if not more annoying) is being ignored completely.

I'd prefer the roasting!

I couldn't think of anything to add, but then after reading the equipment section, one came to mind. I'm certain I've already read this on her, but it is really starting to wind me up now.

CSC fanboys diving in telling people to get whatever the most current one is and ditch there high spec FF bodies as CSC is so much better! Without giving justification

People who stick in an extraneous apostrophe when pluralising "photo" like this: photo's.

Then they justify it by saying that "photo's" is a contraction of "photographs". It's not. It's the plural of "photo", which is an abbreviation and abbreviations behave like words in their own right. You don't write photo', do you? So can this bloody "photo's" nonsense. Stop hypercorrecting your English.

They probably do it with other abbreviations too. But I see it a lot with the word "photos" on photography forums.

That's interesting to hear you say that Kev, because before I came here, I was warned that TP can be a bit of a 'bear pit', and quite vitriolic at times, and I have seen some evidence of this albeit not to the extent that I was led to believe.

However, most forums have their contentious residents, its just the 'nature of the beast', where these people can hide in cyber space. They usually never disclose their real name, or location.
