I am looking to buy a mobile studio setup but need a bit of help on what to get,Continuous flash or use both. Also could someone point me in the direction of a good setup to start with,i have about £500 to spend but this does need to include the backdrop.
Dont mind buying used either.

Flash every time for me. I have an Elinchrom D-Lite IT 4 kit which I am very pleased with. Picked it up used from MPB for £400. I believe there's one for sale in the classifieds at the minute. Only thing with Elinchrom I've found is because they use their own "EL" fit modifiers can be a bit pricier than the more popular Bowens "S" fit although spend £20 on an adapter and that pretty much becomes a non issue.

Gary will be along soon to tell you all about Lencarta. For me, it was a toss up between Lencarta and my Elinchrom kit. Elinchrom only won because I got the offer of kit at very good price.

Flash. Far more controllable and ability to freeze the scene. Lencarta gets the vote from me too - £500 will give you a good starter kit plus some modifiers.

Always think about the fitting you will end up using - modifiers vary greatly in price and you only buy a few lights, but you may buy quite a few modifiers.

Lartcarta is cheaper and good value, Elinchrom a bit better. There are plenty of modifiers available for Elinchrom, from them obviously and cheaper from third part manufacturers. I use a couple of Lencarta softboxes with their interchangeable Elinchrom adapter.
