I have been looking to possibly source some fluorescent lighting for studio portrait work.

Kino Flos would be the obvious choice but the money involved is a bit on the steep side to say the least.

Any body using this kind of lighting on a regular basis and any ideas for suppliers?

Is a kit available from Romania(?) that I am considering if there are no other viable alternatives.

I would bodge together one of my own but for all it would 'work' I don't think it would be the best thing for the studio!

Why continuous? Good for video, but not much else IMHO (and I don't want that argument again chaps :D).

Expensive, power is feeble, marginal even for portraits, very limited modifier options. Basically, unless you're shooting video, don't.

Edit: forgot to add, look at continuous Lencarta Quad lights. Brightest bang for buck I think.

Don't know anything about them. But if you want a UK supplier these look similar http://www.viewfinderphotography.co...ital-Cool-Fluorescent-Tube-Lighting-Head.html

Maybe call Viewfinder - they have always been pretty straight with me.

Thanks - I'll give them a look!

I just like the look - not for everyone I know but the soft even lighting combined with shallow dof works for me.

Not as a straight replacement for strobes mind you, just another tool.

A bit OT but surely you can get any lighting setup with studio flash that continuous would give you? Especially since you have the flashes already?

Most likely yeah! Being able to control you light and shape it you can pretty much do anything.

I'm a big fan of Peter Hurley stuff. I like the idea of the work flow and the way that you can use these lights. The fall off is really quick so spill and stuff is easier controlled in small spaces.

I'm not saying its a one stop shop (and I haven't bought them yet so Its all untested!) but its a little different and I'm into that.

Nobody out there using continuous lighting much then?

Fall-off is down to physics, not the lights.

Chew your way through this thread :) http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=368888
