Yes
now i know i'm going to get loads of why? and no don't do its! but thought i'd ask on here anyway.

i'm considering selling my 5d mark 2 and going back to the 5d

reasons being that i had no problems with the original camera, i loved it and the file sizes suited me just fine and i havn't touched the video side of things since i opened up that box so don't see me doing so in future either.

with the sale of it i could get the original, a medium format system i have been wanting for a while and possibly another flashgun or lens to add to my system, considering the 50mm f1.4 or 85mm f1.8.

my current lenses include the sigma 15-30mm, tamron 28-75mm, canon 70-200mm, 50mm f1.8, canon 580ex speedlight.

so any thoughts? especially for the people who have went from the mark 2 back to the mark 1!

Give me the 5dm2? hehe, on a serious note- doesn't the 5dm2 have different file sizes that you can select? Is there no other features that make you want to keep it? (sensor cleaning, better iso etc).

Do it, whatever you think suits yourself.
If you are lacking things like a flashgun, and the sell of the MkII grants you enough cash for an MkI and other accessories, I don't see why not, as long as you feel it's justifiable.

i rarely shoot at high iso, nothing above 800 so far so the higher iso doesn't come into things. the sensor cleaning helps, yes but from my reading so far it isn't foolproof so will have to clean the sensor at some point anyhoo.

i don't mean the file sizes are too big in the mark 2, i just don't think i need to print anything that big!

in case anyone is wondering, this was a replacement from insurers, i didn't just go out and buy it due to a severe case of G.A.S

Ah sorry- I misunderstood then :). Sounds like you have almost made the decision to me- just as long as you don't regret it :)

i basically have, i'm lusting after a hasselblad or other medium format and won't mind if i spend half the budget on one because i know i prefer shooting film and the 5d is perfectly good for college and when needing to shoot digital.

just hoping for anyone who has downgraded to reply, just in case i'm really missing out on something!

5D is a very respectable camera and I WANT it! But there are couple issues stopping me (aside from the lack of money). Most of the 5Ds have been used heavily by pros for nearly 4 years, and most are being replaced at the EOL. In the ideal case there maybe a few owned by a careful pensioner / holiday maker and only had 900 shots through it. I really doubt they exist with such a brilliant and expensive camera. You can't get new anywhere.

Secondly, there is no sensor cleaning nor improved coating, that camera is a real dust sucker. I really easily get very annoyed by dust, and so far love 40D.

Thirdly, lens AF adjustment is one feature I really need to get for both my existing and future lenses.

1TB hard drives are really cheap now, I don't see any problem with file size.

I might still get 5D, but deep down I really want mk2 or 1Ds series.

dust is something all photographers have to deal with, unless you use an underwater casing when out shooting?!

yeah, like i said, file sizes are not that important, im upgrading my mac to a 1.5TB drive soon. what i mean is i don't think i need the 22mp it has and if i used one of the lesser modes then i would basically have a 5d without the sensor cleaning.

as for the af adjustment, iv never used it :cuckoo:

How long u had your mk2 for? maybe it takes time to adapt and grow into it. I bought my 5D not so long ago but I miss my 1000D.

about 2 months i think?

that's the thing, i love the camera, but it's basically just a 5d with slightly better features which i don't think i use.

i shoot loads and need digital for college otherwise i'd sell it and spend the lot on dedicated film system!

I dunno about the dust thing. I often change lenses and have cleaned the sensor once quickly with an air puffer thing in about 15 months of ownership and 12,000 clicks. No dust visible at the moment

However I do wonder why Canon EOL'd it rather than offering it along side the Mk.II for, say, £799?

I will swop u if you want :D , on a seriously note though the 5dmk2 gives you everything (and more of course) that the classic has to offer. It will definitely be a step into the wrong direction I think. There is no reason I can think of that makes the classic a better buy than the mk2 other than cost. Hold onto it (u wont regret it ;) )

i'm thinking of changing mine & getting a 7D....possibly

yups, thats one thing i hadnt thought about, damn the old screen!

however, when i first got my 5d i loved everything it produced, the mark 2 is a great camera, just doesnt have that magic feeling the first one did if that makes sense?

The IQ from the mk1 5D is something to behold. Maybe 12mp is the sweet spot for an FF sensor. Yes the LCD isn't as good as the latest models, but the 5DI can still hold its own with the new kids on the block, in IQ if not AF/ISO.

BTW I have one for sale :D
