Some bits have words on them and some bits have numbers, be like being back at infant school..............:lol:

Do you have a picture what it should look like just in case. I was never any good with jigsaws. If it's got a roof on when we finish thats a start :D

I took Gary to see the deer today, he should have some belting shots.

I like this one, cos he has all four feet off the floor, the horse people like to see this on horses, bit harder getting it with deer.......:lol:

I would come down but I just am plain scared of crossing that border!:D

Glad it went together ok for you. I do like to keep things simple & strong!
Just hope some day you get some Reds dancing a jig on the roof.:thumbs:

My pleasure Ade. Had a great day out but what do you mean I covered you in green preservative. You started to use the pan brush as a paint brush, thats what caused the problems the paint went everywhere :lol::lol:

Note for next time we need two paint brushes :D

Just sorting out my shots from today will post some later.

Charlie that is one impresive hide you made and simple enough to put up. Well Ade and myself managed it with relative ease :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

Actually gents the easiest way to paint the thing is this.
Before assembly, place flat on two trestles at a comfortable height & paint away! No runs,& it soaks in better cause it's on the flat.;):D
 
we did think about that Charlie, after the hide was built............:lol:

Anyway, pics as promised. I sited the hide in this place for two reasons. Firstly the sun rises behind the hide on the left and swings right around the back of it during the day,so I should get better light.Secondly, some people who come out with me are not too well and can`t walk far, I can drive them right to the door if needs be.

This is the view from the right hand side of the fence, I have hung the nijer feeder on the roof of the hide, what few finches we get don`t seem to like the general hullabaloo.

On the right is the woodpecker feeder, dark branch attached to the fence post. The rest of the feeders are in range for a 300mm lens. I can tweak it as we go along and problems manifest themselves.

I need to sort something for the birds that don`t feed on hanging feeders, a natural looking table of some sort and I need to sort out a station nearby for stoats and things, that may screw the birds up though, so I may have to set that up in a different area.The buzzards will be fed about 30 metres away in the open field.
 
That's looking good now Ade. Give it a few days and it will start to get busy with lots of visitors. :thumbs:
 
Hope so Gary, need to get some fat blocks for the cage feeders and I MUST get a table sorted for the ground feeding birds. I realised that I only had black sunflower and mixed seed, so a trip to the local merchant could be in order, once it kicks off I will start getting bulk deliveries.

I never get the feeders right first time so i`ll have to move things about for a while until I get it just right,I can see everything I need from the hide windows though.

Thanks Mark, my previous feeding station was only about 25 metres from this one, so it should work out ok.
 
Looks like you have set it up in a good location. Real Roe country too.
You should be fine & comfy in there no matter the weather too.
Good on you for setting it up where less able folks can get the use of it too Ade.
Looking forward to viewing the shots you get from your new hide.:thumbs:

Ade just got you a mini bin for the feed, will try and get a second one. They will be perfect for storing feed in the hide and will keep the tree rats out. Should hold about 25kg and it has a locking lid. Might be strong enough to use as a seat aswell.

Will bring them next time I am up. :thumbs:

Second shoot yesterday, good amount of birds and lovely weather. The guy who leases the sporting rights does not want big head counts just yet,so a nice relaxed day with a 160 headcount.

Lovely time of the year as well.

That's a big shoot, Ade.
8 guns here - 8 shoots, plus keeper's day between next Saturday and 1 Feb. About 2000 pheasants in total.
 
Right, I think I may have made a error here, we call the bag the headcount, don`t know why, but we do.

So a headcount of 160 means 160 dead birds on the day, not 160 guns...Sorry for any confusion.

PS...9 guns per day, 8500 birds go down.
 
Having just read this thread through, all I can say is well done. Oh, and I am extremely jealous.

It is reasurring to see someone who cares and understands the wildlife they are photographing. I think it also shows that shooting and conservation cannot only work side by side but are not mutually exclusive.

I prefer the smaller shoots Dougie, generally a lot friendlier and a better laugh, though we do have a good laugh and much merriment on the shoot down here. It is not a "Us and Them" shoot, the guns are all ok and are not up their own backsides.

Just enjoy it Dougie..........:thumbs:
 
I know your all probably bored of seeing sika deer by now, but I have followed and watched these beasts all year long, from no antlers,to buds, to full sets. From seeing the first young of the year following mum through the meadows. They have had a really good breeding year, plenty of young about and in a few weeks, that process will start again. The stags are chasing the hinds about like mad just now, they will be servicing them in a week or so. This lad looks ready anyway......:)
