Young Roe knocking about the beck, I used to see its mother as well, but I have not seen her for a week.Plus we have had a report of a roe with a broken leg being seen about. What to do.............

Superb once more Ade.

Fantastic.

Fingers crossed for the young Roe - does it look old enough to survive if the mother is absent?

KF = AWESOME. Superb.

I think so mate, I ain`t telling the keeper, he will want to shoot it. We have a sika that has survived on three legs for a year or two now. The mother may make it if she does not get badly infected, then again it may not even be her.

Basically, I don`t know....................

Aye - sounds like a fine balance between being kind and giving it the chance to survive.

Any news on the job yet sir?

End of September........:)

Argh! Tension!

Best of luck matey. Will be keeping an eye as usual!

Thanks for sharing Ade.

Great tread. Look forward to seeing more. Even though I guess a busy time coming Up?

Watch out Speilberg.............:D

It was saluting Gary, certainly not me, I have never been officer material.................;)

Might be camera shy Ade . Just like the Kingfishers and Dippers for us today. I'm definitely not officer material I'm happy enough at the bottom of the Totem pole :D. Less hassle.

Aye, you can`t fall far from the bottom rung of the ladder..............:D

Hopefully a better day next time Gary.

The hinds are getting their winter coats now. The stags are black and very nervous, probably due to being shot at all last winter. The nervousness of the stags is spreading to the hinds,so very difficult to get near at the moment.

Quite the opposite up here Ade, Just found out this afternoon One of the bird handlers at the birds of prey, went into a field of Reds to retrieve one of the demo birds who got a wee bit lost. She was attacked by 3 hinds with young. She's okay but very badly bruised.

Interesting, any more info on that please?

Very odd for hinds to attack unless she surprised them and they were defending young. But unusual. I`m not saying it did not happen. But would love a bit more info if you don`t mind.

Yes, I'd be interested to know what form the attack took.
Was it butting or did the hinds get up on their rear legs and lash out with forelegs.

Adults with young - always the potential for trouble there.
Must have been a frightening situation.

Does this look familiar Gary............

John..AKA CGeezer, was meant to be making a visit tomorrow to see the kingfishers, but the river and becks are in damned near full spate and the birds will simply not be about. So we shall have to make it another day.

The old farmer I know has let me put a hide in the field, could be some very good stuff soon.....:)

Gonna put it right in the trees Gary, be a good place, but we will have to walk to it........or quadbike..........

That sounds good. Look forward to some great shots

Well, the birds are doing well but we have a plethora of foxes about.I spent all afternoon getting pee`d wet through on a scouting mission and have just spent the last three hours getting wet again attempting to shoot the gits. The rain is swirling that much that the scopes are just misted and wet. One does not shoot if one cannot see what one is shooting at, stonewall guarentee that Mr Farmers prize cow will be right behind Mr Reynard............:)

Yes, I have those thanks, but if the rain is swirling onto the optics of the scope and I am not 100% sure of the shot,I don`t take it.

John and Ali, sorry but I think the kingfishers have left and gone downstream now. I will get you both up here upon their return next year.

Anyhow, one from yesterday, always plenty of these about and I do like watching them.

Broad back - powerfull looking beast.
What do these sika stags weigh in at, Ade?

Not sure of the exact weight Dougie, but i can pick one up and carry it.

The hare shots are not usually cropped, daft buggers just sit and try to hide. I have to get out of the car and walk up to them to get them running.............:)

Little lads playing, the big boys have sorted the serious stuff out.

Big stag in his winter glory.

Fine shot, Ade. He is very dark. Looks like he has been slashing at the ground with his antlers.
Does the throat of Sika stags swell up during rutting same as red deer stags?

Brilliant photos! :)
