Not sure about that Neil, there are some very good bird photographers on here.

I just tried something different.I set the hide up for the evening sun to hit the birds, but we have had none so have done the best I could. I just wanted something away from the norm, hope I am achieving that.........:)

Don't put yourself down mate there are some great togs on here but these shots are up there with the best of them imho (that might not be worth much mind you) :lol::lol:

Ade had a great time today many thanks for showing me round your wildlife haven. Was a joy to watch the Sika deer they are such character's. If you ever need any help just give us a call. :thumbs:
 
Forecast wasn`t wrong mate, it pee`d down all day today. Sun is out now,so may pop out again.

Anyway, the birds are doing ok with the males plumage beginning to show through.

Poults still in the pens here. 2,000 of them. When they get released they'll go everywhere for a while - even onto the main road.

We had to let them out Dougie, it rained nearly the whole of July and has rained most of August. The fox may get them, but disease would certainly have done so.They have come on very well since release.

And yes, road deaths are quite heavy, but I pick them up and leave them safely in a field for the buzzards etc,etc.

Been mad busy doing other things for the last few weeks. But today, I had the whole day to myself and my camera. I saw next door to nothing all day........:bang:

Saw the KF and Dippers, fleetingly,once. Managed to grab this out of the hide door.

So I went off to the farm to watch the deer, got into the hay meadow and it was bereft of any deer or hares. So I sat and watched for a while and this lass popped up, so the day wasn`t a complete waste of time.

No3 takes the prize for photographic quality.
No1 illustrates how well tree creepers blend in.
No2 illustrates something that has always impressed me about deer and that is how close they get to a fence before commencing their jump. They always appear to have left it too late to spring.
 
I have recently been shooting horses, I mean via the camera not killing them. Yet I watch the deer,their serene agility with awe. Yes, they hop over fences like they are not there, no canter, just a walk up and hop over.They are the most elegant of creatures..............:)

No flash used mate and no noise reduction.D700 is pretty good at high ISO............:thumbs:

Since the visit of Gary, I realised that my KF perch was fine for me, but not so good for people with shorter lenses. I was maybe a bit selfish when I set it up for my lens. So I figured that most people had 400mm max without TC`s, so I set another perch up nearer the hide for future guests to get decent opportunity to get the birds.

Anyway, the exif may say 630mm, but this was taken with my D300 ,1.5 crop, and sigma 120-300 with a 1.4 TC which gives 420mm, 630 taking the crop factor into account.

The perch has only been up since Sunday, but they seem to like it.b****r is getting a nice clear background though. If the perch is set low then the background shows the river cobbles and vegetation in the beck, set any higher and it picks up the larches and other stuff opposite......:thinking:

Ade thats a cracker, like the catch light in the eye. So are you going to try and get them closer. How long till you get them with a nifty fifty like Charlie's reds :D

Just seen the shot with the Heron, how far from the hide was it.
 
Opposite the window you had Gary, maybe a bit downstream, but not much.

Your set up would have nailed it..............:)

Problem, or difference, is Mark, that these are river birds.They fish at differing places dependant on the water level, sometimes they will land and sit for maybe 2 minutes, like they are having a rest.Sometimes they land and fish and return with catch, somedays I never see the little buggers..........:bang:

Totally different to lodge fishing birds.
