Yep, there sure is. I need to go and check some other setts out this afternoon, though one of them is where the KF`s land, so it shouldn`t be too arduous a task..........:)

Edit to add..The deer feeding station is now set up, thanks to Ian and Andy for helping me get what I needed..........:thumbs:

No problem Ade, i wouldn't get chance to see the variety of wildife i do without your help so glad to give a bit back :)
 
Crap day weatherwise, feel for the people who went to the Ingleton meet.

This was knocking about on the beck, very dark in there due to the foliage.

It is dark, Ade, but the bird has just about caught sufficient light on the body at least.

1/60th sec ................ I'd never have got a useable shot at such a speed.
 
TTL flash Dougie, D300 defaults to 1/60th.

This is where they hang around, pretty dark even in good sunlight.

love that shot of the Kingy Ade, did well to get that theres not much light down there, think i might have to start experimenting with Flash for wildlife, i used to be dead set against it because i was concerned it harmed the wildlife :)

Have to admit - I'd always thought the same - at very least that the bird involved would scarper sharpish so it was very much "one try only" togging? Did the KF hang around even after the flash had gone off Ade?

TBH, hence my apology HERE, the bird will sit for twenty or so shots over a couple of minutes,all taken with flash, so it can`t be that alarmed or it would scarper ASAP.......:thumbs:
 
Quick update, for all the rain we have had over the last week, the fields and moors are still like concrete to walk on.Had a little walk around tonight and, with the exception of the pheasant pens, the ground is still rock hard.

We have had to release the pheasants early, the mud in the pens just harbours disease.So, they take their chance with the mowers and foxes,at least they have a chance other than coxy getting them. Such is life........:)

Just about make the lower branches on the smaller pines and larches etc,etc.
 
There are manmade roosts in the pens to get them off the ground at night and to dry out after rain Dougie, but they are out in the big wide world now, so nature will decide.

What we have done is lead the feed hoppers away from the pens and into the young tree plantations and game crops to entice them away from the pen and into the relative security of these dense young woodlands,they have a chance of evading predators in there. They are dogged back into these woods at night to keep them away from the roads and where we can keep an eye on them.There are three of us sorting this out ATM.

I have decided to move the kingfisher hide further up the beck, the ground is more open and the light will be a lot better.Also, not much feeds where it is now, possibly due to the darkness, so I have little else to watch if the KF`s are not about.

I was dogging the poults back in after leaving the beck,no camera . Female sparrowhawk nailed one of the poults, ripped it up, scoffed some and flew off with the rest. Why,oh why, oh why did I leave my camera in the bloody car....................:bang:

Squirrel does taste like sweet rabbit, it is rather nice to eat. Chop the back half off it, leave the front for the buzzards and stew the legs, superb tasting meat................:thumbs:

Yeah D700 mate.

The good thing about the nettles is that they deter unwanted human presence, but if you look around you can follow where the deer walk and miss most of them........:thumbs:

This is the view from the small hide I set up originally, I needed flash to get anything decent from it. I have left it there because I suspect the holes are being used by something larger than rabbits. You can just see the KF perch I put out,bottom right.

Took the D300 today, wanted to watch the behaviour of the KF`s in closer detail. Beautiful things up close, this is not cropped,taken with the D300 and Sigma 3-800 at full whack.
