Or it was the card reason and nothing needed changing at all :)

Some people confuse shutter actuations and file number. File number can be re-set by the owner - or not and is recorded on the card - shutter actuations can not be changed except at the factory and is visible in the EXIF data.

Right
Just found the answer on another forum.... He was right it was used and he has got it replaced......

Taken the camera back and after they checked out the pictures on the DVD I took only 24 hours of the purchase, they had to agree that the camera had been used. Their excuse was that the camera had come from another Jessops shop and didn't know any of the history of the camera.

So they are getting another camera couriered from a shop in Wolverhampton but havn't offered compensation, even though it is going to cost me another £5 to alter the serial number on the insurance policy.

So it will be the 3rd trip plus car park charges on top of the £5. I hate Jessops

im quite peeved! i had the same problem when I got my 40D it has 2000 shutter whatsitmagigs when I got it, but had not idea about how it worked/what things ment!

Ive now taken a few thousand shots out of it :( dunno what I can do though! Its still under warranty (bought less than a year ago etc)Sniff.

Bloody insurance companies. Costs them nothing to change a serial number.

Seems like a genuine mistake by Jessops and they owned up to it and replaced the camera. Unfortunate, but sometimes these things do happen.

This sort of thing has been reported too many times to assume it was a mistake. I doubt it was.

We're not told to try and sell used cameras as new ones.

I give my customers 2 options when the only camera left in the store is one that's been used:
A) "If you're happy with that, I'll give it a clean, reset the settings and box it all up for you so it looks brand spanking. Remember, we've got the 28 days refund and exchange policy"
B) "Alternatively, we can order you one in from head office, will be here in a matter of days"
(if the customer requests a discount, I talk to the manager to see what we can do)

Most of the time they choose option C), and walk out the store and buy it for £50 cheaper online. I wouldn't mind too much had they not just spent 45 minutes using the equipment in our store.

What others havn't taken into consideration that a few years down the line, should I wish to sell the camera, it will be worth less with that extra numbers on the shutter count. it could reduce the price by up to 3 figures.

As mentioned previously, a few years down the line 1800 shutter actuations are unlikely to affect the value at all, and certainly not by 3 figures.....

Unless.......

£0.01

Maybe £1.99.

It's clear that this thread is a worthwhile lesson to us all with at least two things to learn (if we didn't know already);

1) ALWAYS, always, check your purchase in the store before leaving. This is really tricky in the case of a gift, but that's what the 28 days is for . . .

2) it invariably pays to KEEP A COOL HEAD. The OP here has been put off by some of the responses, which I can understand, though the responses wouldn't have been that way if the OP were not so "strong" in his language. Using that approach in-store will likely result in your receiving the bare minimum response required by policy/law. Being nice often gets a far more concialliatory response.

Reading the outcome I can guess the way in which the OP approached the store . . .

I'm off to look at other stuff now as I thik this thread is well and truly done.

No it's just you hear more people complaining.

there are hundreds of thousands of happy customers.

Hells Bells, you know I really thought the OP was on an April Fools Wind up :cuckoo:

Mistakes can be made, it happens, and with the possible exception of brain surgery and the like, very few are fatal. Give them a chance to rectify the situation before piling in like a loose wrecking ball, take the camera back to the shop.

I pressume you have called TV's Watchdog too btw? :naughty: :whistling:

Just as well they've decided not to import Dacias again :bonk::lol:

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Is this still rumbling on? :help:

This thread is absolutely bloody unbelievable.......

Think your right guys, OP seems to have a replacement so alls well that ends well, mind the doors :)
