Hi Guys,

Just wondering if any Mac experts could help.

I have a Macbook Pro and a 24 inch external monitor which i can connect with a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI 1080p Cable. The question is can i have this set up so that Photoshop opens on the monitor and the Macbook stays on with the dock etc there?

When i connect them at the moment all that shows on the monitor is the mac wallpaper? Not sure if theres something I'm missing.

Sorry for being dumb I'm a little hungover!

Thanks in advance.

Goto display options, drag the little square box on the monitor over to the other screen that will move the dock.

If you just want photoshop to open on the big screen, open it, drag it across then close it, it should remember that it was on that screen and reopen on there.

Nothing happens when i drag it across, when i let go of the trackpad it just disappears? Any ideas?

Can you move the mouse around that screen? Or any window on it?

Also with a display port to HDMI surely that would be a rather low resolution on that external screen? When you are in Preferences/Displays on your main screen (macbook?) you have three tabs one of which is Arrange, wherever you leave the white menu bar is where the dock will be as well. Is the screen on the correct side of the laptop ;)

Nothing will move over to the external screen and stay there it just pings back.

How should i connect up to gain better resolution? I thought that was the only way :(

Displayport to DVI as over HDMI the display most likely won't provide PC/Mac resolutions.

What is weird though that you do get a Mac background, it is a Mac background isn't it and not a default one from the TV?

Defo a Mac Background, i'l take a picture later if i get a chance.

Thanks for your help so far!

No worries, it is a weird one. I'm running dual and even triple screen all the time on my Mac's. Never came across not being able to use one but see it.

Have you tried making the external monitor the primary one by dragging across the white menu bar in the 'Arrange Screens' window? If that works does the problem change to the Macbook?
