Connecting another laptop to wireless router

I'm trying to connect my work laptop to my home wireless router but keep getting limited or no connectivity.

Anyone know how I can set it up? :help:
 
Do you have security/encription enabled on the router, and do you have the correct type/password on the new machine?

Does your work laptop use DHCP to obtain an IP address, if it's static then this could be a problem as most 'home' routers use DHCP.

Indeed. these are generally the most common problems.

I have the key ready to type in to my work laptop that I have from my home laptop but when I click on teh view available wireless networks and select my one, it keeps trying to connect but doesn't come up with anywhere for me to type the key in.

I need a dummies guide, I struggled when I connected my own laptop up :lol:

Have no idea what DCHP is

I went once to a training centre and they had a wireless connection and I clicked on that and put their key in and it worked fine.

Is it something on my home network thing that I need to do to allow another laptop to connect, if so what and how

I'm so dumb :lol:
 
Yes, definitely trying to connect to my own, it's picking up the neighbours but it's mine I'm trying to connect to. We're all security enabled
 
ah right

search for available networks choose yours then disconnect, then refresh the network list find yours click then click connect it should bring up the place to put your key number in hope that works

Tried that several times, it won't even connect now, just comes up with Automatic where it usually says Limited or No Connectivity :(
 
Don't think it will be a problem now, just managed to fix the remote desktop connection to the work server on my home laptop. Had to reset the terminal server connection or something.

Thanks evryone for your help anyway :D
 
Bet its a belkin router. Have you tried closing down the firewall on your lappy to eliminate that. My grandson had a similar problem last week, could'nt get connected to his dad's computer in the next room. Poor signal etc, turned out the firewall on my grandsons computer was the culprit.
 
No it's Netgear :D

Will have a look at firewall settings though later. :thumbs:
