Hi all
I'm a newbie. (only one post before). I had a D80 but had to sell it, couple years ago. I want to get back into photography again, I like the nikon so preference is for those.
I have to start at the beginning, I would like to do event/sport photography is the main eventually (horses, idiots doing adrenaline stuff lol),But on the other hand I enjoy the studio/portrait but I apprieciate that it's a long road. I would like something that will enable me to play doing this even when I'm learning, I can't afford a D300 at the moment but I'm looking for an 'under substitute' of this.
Basically, a cheaper model than a D300 that will let me play around with starting sport shots but not to basic that I have to upgrade in 6 months. I hope you all know what I mean.
All I seem to do is search the net for reviews etc then there are some that say such and such camera is no good or ..... So I'm back to square one. What are peoples opinions on sport shots with a D90? Some say they are more than adequate some say has to be minimum D300. Just looking for some advice from a NON salesperson point of view.
Oh and just to add, I'm a little jubious buying a second hand D300, do I need to be? I thought they were semi pro cameras or there abouts, so kind of gets me thnking. Thanks

Hi
Im sure you would manage some decent sport shots with a D90, imo having the latest, best equipment is never a must.

:plusone: for the d90.

Had a day in valencia for the f1 testing last month and took some pics the other day of acrobatic planes the only thing that lets my d90 is me :D

What's your budget and do you need to get lenses as well. If you just need a body then there are some decent low priced D300 bodies around but you may do better to get a s/h D90 and a decent lens or two.

I need to get started. No equipment at the moment. I've seen some kits around £700 ish so I guess that mark really.

Have a look at MPB Photographic in Brighton. They have a good reputation and give a 6month waranty. They have got some D90 and D300 at the moment but you would be able to get a D90 and a couple of lenses for your budget. Don't forget to budget for memory cards, tripod, bag etc as well though.

The D90 is plenty good enough for sports shots, I use one as my second camera shooting cycling and am always impressed with it's photos, even under low light. The main reason I'd go for a D300 over one is because of it's sealed body, but then I've never had any problems using the D90 in light rain.
