Just about to purchase this and wondered if there was anything you'd change?

Do you know anyone who is able to get a work discount? NHS / MOD / BT etc all have schemes - they may only save 5% - 7% but on £2k that is still a free keyboard.

No changes to kit. It'll fly.

I work for BT, my partner and mother for the nhs so I may do some digging. I forgot about discounts

You can add extra RAM yourself on the 27", Apple's price is extortionate.

I think that it i just the 21" iMac where the memory is surface mount but wasn't sure. I guess if you order the smaller memory and are unable to upgrade you just return the whole thing.

This is correct - on the previous generation 21" machines the RAM was on the back of the logic board and inaccessible to the end user, so no practical change. The 27" machines have a panel on the back to gain access to the 4 RAM slots.

Might be worth buying a 3rd party DVD drive, rather than a superdrive.

Looks like it's ticks all the boxes, personally I'd get as much ram as I could afford ( do it yourself)

With the beast as it is, I'd got for the i7. Especially as the money saved on the memory and SuperDrive will as good as pay for it.

It doesn't give me to option for the i7 for the 27inch

It depends which machine you start with. An i7 option isn't available with the base model (£1,449), only on the £1,599 or £1,849.
The extra cost is £200, I would rather spend that on something else.

I was going to say it isn't going to make that much difference anway
