According to O2, making calls has become fifth most frequent use for a smartphone. The most common activities are:

Browsing the internet 24.81 (minutes)
Checking social networks 17.49
Playing games 14.44
Listening to music 15.64
Making calls 12.13

I can relate to this, making calls certainly isn't my #1 activity. Just goes to show, a mobile phone is much more than a mobile phone!

I very rarely use it for calling. I use it most for texting and checking email tbh.

Yes I do, as it's cheaper than my landline :)

Only use it for phone calls and the odd text. hate phones

Mine really only has three functions... calls. text and playing snake.. it takes me 5 minutes to write a text so i generally just phone.. and i hate snakes.. thats all my phone is capable of..

I use the landline for calls to landlines, and mobile for calls to mobiles. That way, everything is free.

I occasionally use the smartphone for browsing and app/data but hardly at all since I got an iPad.

I use my phone as I have 600 mins inclusive so try and use these and have unlimited texts so lots if texting, usually use my 500 Meg of data aswell, it does become my entertainment when stuck in hotels during the week.

I'm looking at this thread on my smartphone! TP app ftw! I generally use it for calls a lot as I am too lazy to text out everything I want to say

hmm would say comes down the list for me.

My contract is 500 mins a month (rarely go above 100) unlimited texts, and 500Gb.

I can be on my work phone for hours a week. Personal phone? almost never.

We don't have mobile signal here so I almost never talk on it - but I still have a smart phone for all the other things they can do on wifi and with GPS.
For a start it has a synced copy of important farm record spreadsheets on it which is really useful if I want to look up details of a cow out in the field so I don't forget later.
I can drive round a plot of land and a GPS app will tell me exactly how big the area is which again is a very useful thing to know.

Today I worked out how to bluetooth link to the pickup radio so I can play some tunes from the phone on a long trip.

i use my mobile for pretty much every call i make because i get 3000 minutes free a month.

mind you, i probably only use about 30 of them!

I do use my mobile for all sorts, internet, email and endomondo for tracking my walking. i think it'd find it though to get by without my phone.

i do sometimes hate the intrusion of being contactable everywhere though.

Hardly ever make actual voice calls as I can think of much better ways to spend my time!

I'm on payg so need to top up by £10 per month to get 500mb data (& 300 texts) but can't see myself making 40 minutes of calls each month (@25p/minute), possibly 20 at a push.

I use mine to check the time when I'm getting changed ready to leave work and that's about it.

I don't own a smartphone. I own a cheap mobile that makes call and can send the occasional text.

It stays switched off unless I want it on .

Since I took it off charge 4hrs 3m 34s ago, battery usage is as follows......

51% Display
15% Standby
10% Facebook
9% Firefox
3% Wifi
3% Android
2% Idle
2% Angry Birds
2% Dialler

30% texts
30% phone
20% email
20% Internet but definitely not social networks ... yuk
