OK, so Mrs S has been naughty and got snapped by a little hitler in a van with a camera and after identifying herself as the chauffeur has received a CoFP in the post.

However, it specifically says... "... when the alleged offence of Motor Vehicle fail to comply with a stop sign - manned equipment.."

To me a stop sign is the Octagonal one with STOP written through it and a solid white line at the junction. There isn't a STOP sign there. (There is a no entry sign - part time making a 30 yd bit of road a bus lane only for certain periods.)

Does the stop sign include no entries etc? (or has someone made a boo boo?)

A stop sign doesn't have to be the red octagonal sign.
A stop sign held by a roadworker perhaps? (Manned equipment).
However, it could also be a red light (Also a stop signal...not a sign I suppose.....semantics/technicalities).

I wouldn't count a No Entry as a stop sign. Yes, you must stop if you are not excluded from the no entry, but stopping is a byproduct of adhering to the sign, not the actual direction itself.

no lollipop person, no workers, no lights... pretty sure the manned equipment refers to how evidence was captured.

Has she driven through some road works with a handheld stop/go sign? How would they prove she went through it on stop? Unless there is video evidence there isn't much proof of anything.

If traffic lights on road works then some of those are only advisory too....they may also need a TRO or other bit of paperwork to be enforceable.

This is a link that was in the local paper about it....

I think that's the wrong offense IMO. Had a look through pepipoo?

Is that the stretch she was caught on? I take it you are not permitted to go over the upcoming mini roundabout between those times ... it's as good as a stop sign really.

The "Stop Sign - Manned Equipment" does generally refer to a stop / go board.

"... when the alleged offence of Motor Vehicle fail to comply with a stop sign - manned equipment.."

should be "detected by manned equipment"

I'd check out signage requirements. Plus if its a recent change it has to have the right bits of paper.

That sign is poorly written and liable to be misunderstood. Is there a clearer 'no entry except for buses' on the road itself which is visible from the roundabout?

Also what time was she caught? If it was close to 7.30 or 9.30 you could argue she thought she was allowed....

http://www.ticketfighter.co.uk/bus.htm Seems to have useful info on required signs.

Only if the speed detector was manned. If the stop sign was manned, the wording is correct.

Yeah, I think I misread the list I was looking at ... I do that a lot, hence I rarely get involved in these threads :D

this is the entire bus lane. The hidden sign on the left revolves to show no entry except buses / taxis etc...

There was no physically manned sign. I took it to read detected by manually operated equipment - i.e. guy in a van as opposed to a static camera.

Poorly visual yes.
Hidden...sadly not.
Mrs lynton can fight it though. There are channels.
Risky though.

Thats a terrible sign for sure.
