Im doing a 3 year photography degree and at 28 and no education since leaving college at 18 its proving hard lol Luckily my g/f is a teacher so she helps me with my academic stuff, but the Photographic Arts (Artistic) side of things !!!!!

I’ve so far had three projects

This is what I do - I did night time city scapes in HDR (digital)
This is where I live - I went round Holmfirth with a 6x7 Mamiya :lol:
People - I interviewed and photographed homeless people in Manchester, Leeds and London (35mm colour film, developed and printed by me :woot:)

I’ve had some good feedback on my images so far but the next one has left my mind blank ...... It might be the Fascism and Futurism essay, the history of Photography essay and the presentations I have to do on both subjects that have to be handed in soon !!!!!

Concepts - either a; an investigation or b; making a statement

I just can’t get my head around this one ..... and yes this is all the info I have. It’s got to be done and handed in next Monday so im starting to panic.


Sorry for the rant lol Maybe someone can think of a cool idea but im seeing the course leader on Monday to talk about it.

Hmmmmmm

For the investigation one.. you could try and look into the secret areas of life, being an investigator with your camera, and with permission maybe try photographing people asleep, to 'investigate' the way they look in this state! Or something along that vein.. peoples secret habits, relationships, routines.. etc
Peeping through keyholes, street photography of dodgy looking meetings between people, lol!

For the statement one.. you could maybe look at people on the street who make statements with what they wear.. or find things that stand out eg a sea of normal looking cars and one unusual car, or VW camper or something painted with flowers :)

I may well come back to this!!
I always get stuck on the projects i get set at uni, and get all fired up when I hear about other peoples!
 
Making a statement could be an interesting set of graffiti pictures....

A few B+W, some run down areas, centre of town, names on a bench, "I love dawn" carved into a tree etc, inside pub toilets (ask first though, don;t wanna be called a pervert!)

And I would have thought a good walk would sort that out pretty quickly, and is different stuff than you have done previously.

I thought about doing Graffiti but my lecturer said it’s been loads before, but I think toilet graffiti would be different (Ive seen some strange messages in the past !!) ...... I have a think about it :thumbs:
 
Hi JBOB!

People make public statements all the time - about their sexuality, political affiliations, charities they support, their self-image, sense of humour, etc - by the clothes (often t-shirts) or the badges they wear.
They also make statements about their affluence by their accessories (watches, jewellry, etc), clothing labels or the bags (Harrods, errr.. lots of others) they carry or the cars they drive!

Shouldn't be too hard for you to work something up along these lines if you wanted.

(I would have thought that if your tutor has specifically mentioned graffiti been done before he/she means it's been done to death and it'll be very hard for you to come up with a novel presentation).
