I wonder if the rise of the lifelike video war games industry I.e badge of courage etc is actually fuelling the recruitment of warriors for the likes of Isis and other groups ,the kids sit at home on there game machines and in there minds become a invunerable warrior/soldier and then can't differentiate between fantasy and reality .
In my day every other boy had a train set of meccano and wanted to be a train driver or a engineer ,just a thought but anyone else think the same

Its a difficult one as it does trivialise war and lets face it there's no second chance with the real thing which I thing is something that might go unconsidered!

Don't think so either I agree with Tom
These sort of games well the ones I play are always good vs evil
In fact the opposite I would have thought the opposite in fact
The hero is often an allied soldier fighting against the nazis in a WW2 setting

I used to be a massive COD head a few years back. Loved MW2, BO. MW3 and BO2 not so much. But still carried on playing. At no point did I even remotely think I was anywhere near skilled with a real gun as I was with the PS3 controller. And at no point did I ever think "wow this is easy! I must try it for real!".

Most people who are brainwashed will be brainwashed with or without the use of FPS or similar. The only thing it may do is trivialise killing and violence.

It's nothing new though is it?
Toy soldiers have been common playthings for kids for centuries (and I'm sure have fueled just as many fantasies about being an invulnerable warrior). Things have just moved on with the latest technology.

There might be a debate to be had around the realism of modern games and the possible desensitization effect, but TBH I don't really buy that either.
The vast majority of people (even children) have a good grasp of the difference between fiction and reality - and fantasies really are just that.

I have been playing computer/console games since 1980 still playing them now, also play airsoft if I feel like shooting another person.

I can remember when the exorcist ( the original) was banned for awhile because people were apparently commuting suicide and the blame was put on the film.
What was that early/ mid 70's? so no its not a new idea, the same as video's when they became common place, there were a couple of murders that I vaguely remember,
where the perpetrator blamed what ever ( violent) film was in vogue to rent at Blockbusters at the time.

I so I also say "no" people will always find an excuse for their actions, one way or another.

Well either that or we are breeding a new generation of impressionable, irresponsible off spring.

And what did people spend the last 10,000 years blaming for the nut jobs and odd balls that want to watch things burn and people die?

Violence was around a long time before computer games - just as easy to target religion and blame that

never believed in games affecting behaviour. but thing is, half of these FPS shooters kids shouldn't be playing anyway if parents followed the age guidance

Law. Not guidance.

Completely true. As I mentioned above, I used to play COD. A lot. With friends. Using headsets. It was probably geeky but it was good fun. There were times when players on the other team resorted to swearing and insults because they were sore losers. I remember once when some kid was playing and he became upset and his dad came on the headset to tell us off. We responded by suggesting his parenting skills weren't up to par if he was happy to let a ten year old play COD.

You weren't playing my son by any chance were you? :D

Although to be fair he's over 20 years old, and only swore at the other team while he was annihilating them ( apparently)
